2.compared with ‘thought, anticipate’
i.    一般不 补  more .. than anticipated = more.. than (it was) anticipated

two subjects comparision
1.a noun is coompared with anouth noun
a.    不补… A better than B (a civilization a thousand years more ancient than the city)
2.a sentence is compared with anther sentence
a.    可补   A is doing something bettern than B does something.
b.     但很多情况下可省略各个重复成分, 甚至谓语

比较是很复杂，我做题的方法是先看比较的部分是主语，还是其他部分。一般主语比较要在than    之后补出谓语动词，这样不会造成歧义。

回到题中885    sec    3-24    比较的是宾语，如果补出was    但不知道was    是什么成分。

完全同意。不是主语比较的不要补。比较的成分在句子中都不作主语，补什么谓语动词？不是画蛇添足吗？

都同意, 但有一点不同意)

我觉着it恰恰是指代a rise. 这句话补全是:  than it (即:a large rise) was (making the economic health robust) five years ago.
如果不加it was, 这句话就是than (the economic health ) five years ago.因为the economic health 前面已提及, 应被省略.

所以加it was更明确表明比较对象是a rise 而不是 economic health

不对的话, 大家批判!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
