为什么选Ａ，不是选Ｃ呢？

test 2-2 1题：Contrary to popular belief, the basic intruments of the old jazz bands were not saxophones, ___________cornets and trumpets.

A: or not

B: but

C: instead

D: neither

这题为什么选but, but不是连词吗＞？

我选了A,  A干嘛错了呢？

为什么选Ａ，不是选Ｃ呢？

the pattern is:   the first ... to be/do...., thus, A is correct

if C were "the first antibiotic that was discovered", C would be correct.

the pattern is :  not ....., but....  ,     not N1, but N2 and N3.

if A, It' makes no sense to say "not N1, or not N2 and N3",  which are usually written as "not N1, N2 and N3".
