Please don't discourage yourself so early.  Actually banking and consulting are the only two industry that don't care too much about your background.  Of course, if you have related background, that's definitely a plus, but not must.

What they want is Smart candidate with good communication skills who also is willing to work very hard.  Your Big4 W/E is good enough to help you knock those doors.

I totally agree. All IB wants is a smart and aggressive young man/woman who can work 80-100 hours a week. However in this case, LZ might need to build a story to explain your job switches. Bankers are very risk averse. They want people who dream to be a banker when they were born.

I think both are great!

Wharton is great at Asia network.

Columbia is great in location.

if look into 2nd job opp after MBA, I think Wharton is definitely a good choice for the long-run, for its large-size and active Chinese alumni, for its name in Asia, if you want to relocate back to CHina. For the first-job hunting upon MBA, Columbia certainly takes the NY edge.

作为suncola的同学兼roomie，我也来补充两句。选校和找对象是一回事儿，没有最好的，只有最合适的。W绝对是个好学校，各科平衡，学风踏实，收的人也大多比较稳重，个人挺欣赏W的同学。但当时自己只选了哥大，原因也很简单：纽约和哥大的人文魅力。我也承认哥大的宣传里过于注重纽约的地理优势，但是人在纽约才知道这里的“风水”确实无可比拟。对于老美而言，是否在纽约其实并不重要，但是对于国际学生而言，生活在纽约能教给你的东西远远多于商学院。除了suncola之前所说的体验文化艺术方面的便利（哥大ID在大多数的博物馆都能免费通行），身在纽约更能便利地融入各种国际交流活动，比如我有一些同学课余参加很多联合国的合作项目，去非洲扶贫等等，这些商学院外的活动确实能开阔眼界；此外，因为哥大本身的人文科目比较强，国际关系学院、新闻学院以及法学院等都很有影响力，各个院系之间的互动也能提供不同的视角。

此前各贴也说了很多有关纽约对于找工作的便利，但我个人反而觉得不必过于关注这一方面。如果能进M7，我相信大部分的就业机会还是均等的，不会因为哥大在纽约就都招了哥大的人。如果纯粹为了就业，其实现在人在亚洲机会反而更多。我觉得各位想去好学校读书的初衷应该和我当初的想法差不多，更多层面是一种游学的心态，体验一种生活在别处的心情，而纽约应该算是个让人又爱又恨的“别处”了。至于对未来发展的考量，我觉得排名因素的影响力微乎其微，大部分都取决于自身的能力、心态和一部分机遇，有时候看上去很美的东西只是一些表面现象，不必过于在意了。
