I am also a Chinese student in UW MBA program, majoring in Applied Corporate Finance. Thanks to Tony for taking this initiative to let prospective applicants know more about this promising program, and I would like to give a brief description of my specialization too.
Though not having a long history, the ACFIN program is making solid headways in terms of student quality and placement record. Out of the 16 second-year students in this major, several people have got offers from such IBs as Robert Baird and Bear Stearns. Others got senior financial analyst positions from Best Buy and Qualcomm. There are two Chinese students including me in this major. We worked for a big four audit firm and a global bank in China respectively, have GMAT score in the vicinity of 750, and have both landed jobs with salary similar to the median salary of schools ranked top 8-15.
As a rough conclusion, if you aim at top MC and IB firms, UW, as well as other non-top10 schools, probably will not help achieve your goals. But if you target at the leadership development program or corporate finance job of Fortune500, you will fare well at UW as long as you are excellent enough. What is more, just like many other non-top 10 programs, UW is generous with financial aid, so the ROI is good.
