just took a closer look at the website of UW. its "focused" approach is quite remarkable.

Tony, do you have any information about chinese students' placement in 2005? thanks

Sorry, I don't have the placement data. As far as I know, nearly all of them got job within 3 months after graduation including one graduated on Decmember. I believe there is only one who went back China. Salaries mainly were determined by the location and position.

The placement data before winter semester last year was not as good as this year.

I am also a Chinese student in UW MBA program, majoring in Applied Corporate Finance. Thanks to Tony for taking this initiative to let prospective applicants know more about this promising program, and I would like to give a brief description of my specialization too.

Though not having a long history, the ACFIN program is making solid headways in terms of student quality and placement record. Out of the 16 second-year students in this major, several people have got offers from such IBs as Robert Baird and Bear Stearns. Others got senior financial analyst positions from Best Buy and Qualcomm. There are two Chinese students including me in this major. We worked for a big four audit firm and a global bank in China respectively, have GMAT score in the vicinity of 750, and have both landed jobs with salary similar to the median salary of schools ranked top 8-15.

As a rough conclusion, if you aim at top MC and IB firms, UW, as well as other non-top10 schools, probably will not help achieve your goals. But if you target at the leadership development program or corporate finance job of Fortune500, you will fare well at UW as long as you are excellent enough. What is more, just like many other non-top 10 programs, UW is generous with financial aid, so the ROI is good.

Thank Tony and zdcgy.

Choosing a specialization during application means that if i failed to be admitted to the specialization, I would also be rejected by the whole program. No chance to transfer to other specialization?

As far as I know, at least one of our classmates was deemed less competent for one specialization but recommended to another one at last. So it is possible and depends on the vacancies available. Anyhow, supply and demand always matter

thanks zdcgy.

seems i have to reevaluate my strength and weakness.

I am fascinated by Product/Brand Management specialization, but the odds to get into seem questionable.

I suggest that you browse the website of that specialization of our school, which have the resumes of current students. From that, you can get a thorough view of the students' quality and compare that with yours. This will provide very objective estimates of your chances.

By the way, if you are really "fascinated" by this specialization, I personally think odds are in favor of you to succeed in application (of course, given that your background is not bad), because not many people are so strongly interested in a certain specialization of a non-top10 school, and you can distinguish your application by this enthusiasm.

As you may find out, the salary of brand mgt specialization of UW is comparable to most of its peers and some top10 schools. In addition, the financial aid is generous, which makes this investment even more attrative. Good luck!
