University of Wisconsin-Madison’s MBA program

UW-Madison is one of best public schools in U.S. The MBA program here includes focused niche programs. I was in the same shoes as people in ChaseDream 2 years ago and would like to share inside information about the school and its programs. I’m a 2nd year student at the laceName w:st="on">ErdmanlaceName> laceType w:st="on">CenterlaceType> for Operations and Technology Management. OTM (Operations and Technology Management) specializes in the cross-functional area between engineering and business. Most students have an engineering background (some have science degrees).

One thing may matter to you is that “University Wisconsin Ties Harvard for Educating Most CEOs”. I got my full time offer this August from a Fortune 500 company to join their leadership development program.

There are 10 Chinese students totally in 2nd year. 4 of them, 2 girls and 2 guys, were directly from China. They normally had GMAT  around or above 700 and decent TOEFL scores. 6 of them were from U.S and Canada. We had 4 to 10 years work experience in China. Most worked in multi-national companies before joining UW-Madison.
This summer, 7 out of 10 interned in U.S, one worked in China for U.S, one got married and another one worked for school of business. So far, I think, 4 of 10 have received (or accepted) offers.
There are 5 Chinese students in 1st year. Unfortunately, no one was directly from China. They either had a degree from U.S or previous F2 in U.S.
Two GMAT champions were all from China. They had respectively 770 and 780.

Hopefully, you have a basic understanding of UW-Madison MBA program.

Some prospective may make their decisions
according to the rank of schools. I that rank may mislead you sometimes. When I
tried to select schools I applied, the factors I was looking for were: basic requirement
of program ( did I meet them?), current student profiles (are there some similarities
between me and them?), placement statistics including position and compensation
(any positions or companies I will be interested after graduation). I think “fit”
is the key here.

What is rank?

To be honest, as an MBA student, I don't think any ranking make a big difference to individual. I discussed this issue with some professions and employers. They think, in the LACE>U.S.LACE>, as ordinary people, you past experience and intelligence make difference. Yesterday, a partner from Big 5 told us that “an MBA degree doesn’t necessarily make you smarter or more qualified…simply, it creates a different set of expectations.”>>

我有6年的brand management和direct marketing的经验,对Madison的 Center of Brand&roduct Management很感兴趣。

听说这个中心还从来没有过中国学生,不知是否是因为中国学生的语言和文化差异的原因,很难进入此中心。对此有些担心。

另:想了解madison中国毕业生的marketing方向的就业情况
