P2 - By the early 20th century, many middle-class citizens were disturbed by the problems and felt a social obligation to reshape the American landscape.
From 1900 to 1918, the progressives led a movement to battle the problrms of industrialization and urbanization.
Legislation was enacted to protect workers and gave the public increased control to elect political leaders.
Roosevelt extended the government branches to curtail monopolistic practices.
Some industries became federally regulated.
=> this precedent changed the expectations of the role that government would play in society and inspired the recover from the Depression of 1929.
