影像证据显示 火星有大量液态水纯在的证据 两种水文特征：径流特征和喷涌特征 直接介绍runoff特征：和地球的河流特征差不多 证据是水星表面存在的干涸河床 这也暗示火星曾经有大量液态水 表面温暖

喷涌特征outflow channel：一下子由火山喷发形成许多河流：证据是从干涸河床宽度和深度可以看出来水流流速很快 而且形成了teardrop-shaped小岛

一些科学家2003年根据三角洲的照片得出由lake存在 另外一些科学家认为有个盆地之前是古海洋

关于火星上是否有水这个问题不同的观点都有 有人展示湖泊照片证明 有人认为地质活动也可以形成这种干涸湖泊的地形 然后火星表面的岩石层含有的碳氧含量太低 不足以证明存在水 他们认为火星寒冷干燥 不可能形成水 当然更新一些的数据资料显示 至少有一部分地区是有水的
