I took a passing glance at the publicly available faculty salaries at Univ Colorado 2020-2021 FY. The figure indicated in the ad is not fictional but indeed true, as I did spot a few Leeds School AP compensations each exceeding $200K -- even significantly highly than Associate Professor compensations at the same school. These are quite eye-catching as they are defintely on a par with those at the very top schools. Leeds APs make at least twice as much as their Arts and Sciences School counterparts on average. Clearly, these few APs are recent hires, most probably over the past two, three, or five years. I went on to check AP salaries data for some other schools, making a particular note of those ranking above Univ Colorado. AP compensations at most of those, such as Michigan Ross School, University of Florida, and Univ of Iowa, are below $200K. Therefore, based on partial evidence, it is certain that Univ. Colorado pays APs significantly more than do most of its peers. So, what is going on at this school? Are price levels significantly higher in Colorado relative to other states? Or, is the school amidst a vigorous campaign of attracting top-calibre faculty by skyrocketing pay offers?
On a side note, salary increases mean proportional price increases. Ten years ago, one dozen eggs cost 99 cents or even less but today can carry a price tag anywhere from $3 to $5. As another example, one-dollar stores are a dying breed. |
