2017 UVA MSC 弗吉尼亚大学MS in Commerce 官方答疑汇总

大家好 我是UVA McIntire School of Commerce, MS in Commerce项目的Class of 2018 Student Ambassador
去年申请的时候，得到了很多CDer的帮助，作为student ambassador，也希望和大家分享有关uva mcintire项目的申请信息。大家提的申请问题我会进行汇总，然后直接向Admission office反馈，以争取给大家最为详细和准确的答案。


首先，希望和大家分享一下项目的一些基本信息，我主要讲一些官网上查不到的消息吧。
1.项目设置
目前是三个track：Finance, Marketing management and Business Analytics. 项目招收有少数工作经验的本科非商科学生。项目以Eco major最为人多势众，其次是社会科学，语言，传媒，还有些工科的同学。入学要求需要三门先修课，在正式开学前完成即可。如果本科院校没法选到该课程，可以上uva提供的网课（比如我就是上了online financial accounting，授课教授就是秋季教课的老师，觉得相当有用）。课程设置比往年来说更quan了一点，开学第一个月就开始学Visio,SQL,Tableau。在spring的时候会根据track的不同，学各自专业的统计分析课。

2.国际生比例
本届学生120人，国人比例为15%左右。大课分为两个section，有固定的分组，基本每组只有一个国际生。所以整个项目对于体验文化，融入美国课堂之类的是相当有帮助的。
3.Career Service
UVA McIntire的career service真的是挺厉害的，有着不同于学校的独立的career service center。目前，美国处于秋招季，基本每天都有networking和info session的活动。请来做讲座的基本都是知名公司的vice president级别并且多为uva alumni。虽然美国就业形式目前对于国际生也比较艰难，但是学校在尽可能地为大家提供最好的平台，其余的还是靠自己吧。

4.答疑
我会不定期地爬上来更新以及回帖的，大家有什么想问的可以直接回复，我可以进行汇总后给招生处。如果大家遇到了一些例如发邮件给admission office，一直没人回的情况，也可以告诉我，我可以直接把你们的问题当面反馈给他们。如果很多人觉得有必要加我微信的话私聊的话，我也可以提供，然后建一个申请群，方便沟通。所以请大家尽情提问啦！


搜集的一些同学私下问的FAQs和Admission office的相关答复

1.       Questions about prerequisites? What if Chinese students cannot enroll in Microeconomics and Introduction to Statistics in their own university? Is online courses offered by Coursera acceptable?

If the student has not taken any of the three prerequisite courses, then it would be extremely difficult to apply and be admitted to the program. If they have one or two left to take, they need to complete them either at their current university of over the summer at another school, prior to entering the program.The University of Virginia offers financial accounting online in May-June thatis available to incoming students. However, we prefer all other prerequisite courses to be taken in person and for credit and grade. We do not accept Coursera.

If the student is in Beijing over the summer, they can take a prerequisite classthrough the Global Summer School in partnership with Beijing Jiaotong University. These courses are taught by American professors and offered for grade and credit.

2.       Is there a minimum requirement for GMAT or GRE, and gpa?

No, there is not a minimum requirement for GMAT/GRE or GPA. The admissionscommittee takes a holistic view when reviewing applicants and look for

1)demonstrated academic ability including verbal and quantitative ability,

2)personal and career motivation or “Is this a good fit for you?”,

and 3)leadership skills or “Are you a good fit for the program?”.

It is important applicants are able to cover all three of these points in your application materials,whether through a course-by-course credential evaluation, English language test, GMAT/GRE scores, letters of recommendation, resume, and accompanying essays.

International students whose first lanuage is not English, are expected to provide an English language test, TOEFL or IELTS. The minimum accepted TOEFL score is 100 ibt with a strong emphasis on speaking and listening. The mimum accepted IELTS score is 7.5 also with an emphasis on speaking and listening.

3.       What’s the criteria of sending an interview invitation, such as undergrad university reputation, GPA, and language scores?

4.       Information about recent International students’ career destination(if there is data related to Chinese students, it’ll be better.)

As of a year ago, placement of international students in the U.S. after graduation was anywhere from 50-70% based on the previous four graduating classes (2013-2016).Despite a dedicated career services team, extensive global alumni network, and 300+ employers recruiting on campus every year, it is challenging for international students to secure jobs in the U.S. after graduate school.

5.       Is transcript evaluated by WES still acceptable this year?

We accept course-by-course credential evaluations from any of the services listed here: www.naces.org. This includes WES and ECE. Note that it takes up to 6-8 weeks for an evaluation to be completed and sent to UVA.

请问这个项目的要求是本科不能是商科对么，如果我本科是finance，就只能申请global commerce那个项目的意思？但是如果我想学的是Business Analytics track呢，好像global项目并没有和BA相关的课程啊...

据我目前了解，finance应该是属于商科的，所以不太符合申请的要求，我明天再去和admission office确认下

Eligiblity depends on whether the applicant has taken management and business courses that are the equivalent to a business degree. Chinese applicants studying outside of the U.S. must submit a course-by-course credential evaluation as part of the application process. If the evaluation determines that the amount of coursework you have taken constitutes a business major, then thye would not be eligible. The rule of thumb is 10 or more business classes (finance, accounting, management, marketing) would constitute a business major.
Sometimes a major is international trade and offered through the business school but the courses look closer to economics. If there is a question, please have them reach out to mscommerce@virginia.edu and forward a copy of their unofficial transcript showing all past courses (including major, minor, electives) as well as their current coursework. We can have it vetted in advance.

不好意思 我不是ms in global commerce项目的 所以对这个项目的了解程度也基本局限在官网的介绍内容上

如果本专业是语言二专业是金融（要求的先修课在这里修的），那是否应该连个专业的成绩单都提交
