HEC Montréal marketing PhD面经(已接受OFFER)

HEC Montréal 是加拿大蒙特利尔大学下面的商学院， 法语为主， 也有部分英语授课的项目。学校历史悠久， 在加拿大商学院里面排名也不错。我面试的是marketing 专业online consumer behavior/ e-commerce 方向。导师是Dr. Senecal,他是专攻这两个方向的， 所以和我的研究兴趣很一致。 约的是中午12点半， 老师非常准时， 12点31分发来skype 视频， 我开始还以为会有至少2，3个人， 结果就他一个人。。。老师非常随和， 先和我聊了家常， 然后就是如下问题
1.why do you want to get a PhD degree ?
2. Your research interests and why them
3. Have you ever conducted scientific research?( not your master thesis) if not, how do you think you will be able to do them during your phd ?
4. You mentioned you want to be a professor, what kind of schools you are looking to get in ? Teaching insensitive or research intensive?
5. What do you expect from a PhD supervisor?6. You mentioned you can speak french, can we talk in french briefly?
7. Have you applied other schools, and how likely you will you come to our school if we make your an offer ?
8. Do you have any questions?

问题都还蛮简单的， 可以看出他对我缺少研究经历并不是很在乎，反而一直在说他那边的情况， 他有一个lab, 通过Neurological sensors研究消费者对不同购物网站的反应， 反正就让人感觉很高大上。然后他谈了下fiance(2万五加币一年，不知道这个算还可以的吗?), teaching opportunities,最后他直接说I will make recommendation to the panel and let me know if you have any other offers from other schools.

总体很愉快的面试! 感觉这个导师对我印象应该不错， 主要就是研究方向一致， 毕竟这个方向的marketing的人比较少。看结果吧! 大家加油



更新： 学校于3月中旬发来waiting list 通知，一个星期后发来offer，已接受！
另附本人情况供大家参考：

24岁，法国商学院+英国一般大学双学士学位， 专业marketing， 加拿大某大学硕士，专业e-business.
GMAT 640， 雅思8.5。 除硕士毕业论文外无任何research经历，无牛推。面试时老师的一句话让我感触很深。他说他招phd只看两个方面，motivation and potential to ahieve what you are motivated to do.

Hi, Sorry I am at work I can't type in Chinese in this work computer.

As far as I know, HEC Montreal's MBA program is the best by value in Canada. It is very cheap compared to other schools and HEC Montreal is very industry connected and focused. Also you can apply for PR right after graduation, no work experience required. The downside is that it will be really really hard for you to find a job in Quebec if you can't speak good French. But of course you can move to English speaking provinces.

Hi Angela,

For the PR, after application, first you get a CSQ from Quebec within 3 months, and then you submit to the federal government for PR, which will take almost one year. However, many people I know, they move to Ontario right after they have got CSQ, and they still get the PR after one year. Although this is not recommended, but it's up to you to take the chance...

And for the second question I will say yes or not. Because if you graduate from for example U of T MBA, of course you are more advantageous in Ontario job market than graduating from HEC Montreal. But then again, if it was just an average business school, I dont see why HEC Montreal would put you in a weaker spot. In terms of the local connections, friends, networks, if your final destination is Toronto, then I guess studying in Montreal isn't ideal, because the two cities far away( 6 hour drive) and you won't find many people from Toronto in Montreal.  But, rememeber it's getting really hard to the PR from Ontario nomination, this year the provincial nomination program closed in only 2 days after its openning. Way too many international graduates in Ontario.

Why dont you look at other English provinces like Alberta or NS if French is a concern?

yes ! If immigration is the main reason you want to do your MBA in Canada, then without doubt HEC Montreal is your best choice. You will spend less money on tuition, and get the PR right after graduation.

Plus, Montreal is a very beautiful city ;) You will love it!! Good luck

建议去英语地区，为了移民去一个法语地区学习很蛋疼，尤其是一个以法语为主的学校，别人说话你完全听不懂的感觉很差。而且学完了来安省工作，也不会有什么Hec Montreal的校友网络，怎么找工作啊。

我去montreal和quebec city玩，路标全是法语，连麦当劳收银员都不说英语，买个餐都太费劲了。
