Hey - from what the name of your dept implies, it indeed sounds like a corporate buy-side. The major responsibility is basically to assist in the company's strategic acquisition, in which you pretty much help source investment opportunities and participate in deal execution. If that is the case chances are that you are very likely to encounter the sell-side FA during your transactions, where you get to learn something you are interested in (i.e. IB).

People usually transfer from the sell-side to the buy-side (fund houses or the corp.), not the other way around, though.
