C和E最大的区别是最后那里： to what extent VS.the extent that is,   
答案认为，C中whether...warmer和to what extent是平行的，还是第一次看到这样的平行。。。而且to what extent( Earth would get warmer)应该是省略这一部分吧？
E中，that没有先行词，我觉得经过OG某道新题之后发现已经不能像之前那样对待that了...不过在这里再想一下，that试图指代的是Earth would grow warmer，而这个在whether的结构之内，故无法，还是说extent的用法就是not idiomatic?

希望有人可以指正一下我的思路，谢谢！

我觉得楼主关于省略的理解是正确的。
“whether Earth would grow warmer” // "what extent ( Earth would get warmer) to" 完美~
然后ron说过 not allowed to end modifiers with prep. 所以就变成正确答案的样子了：
“whether Earth would grow warmer” // "to what extent ( Earth would get warmer)"

再引用ron的列子 意会一下 平行
what he knows and who spoke to him --> parallel
what he knows and the people who spoke to him --> nope
the things he knows and who spoke to him --> nope
the things he knows and the people who spoke to him --> parallel (two normal nouns)

我刚刚特地去查了朗文词典 里面有一种用法是 the extent to which=how much 除了这，就没有extent 后面加引导从句的词啦。而且extent很少后面直接加东西的 我看词典上都是extent of 顶多。
不知道说的对不对，希望对你有帮助，加油~

有没有大神能帮忙解释一下B选项中的what the extent would be怎么不对了，OG里面的解释说不知道这个extent指代什么是什么意思？

恐怕不行。原因有二：

一、句意不同。

分析下正确选项中：focus on 。。。to what extent （Earth would grow warmer）

focus on+what引导的宾语从句。这个宾语从句和单单的the extent还是有区别的。

二、平行错
to which it might中省略了谓语和宾语，在and左边找不到被省略的谓语和宾语。
