Pearson would sell FT to Nikkei Inc. of Japan to sharpen its focus on its key education businesses.
Pearson’s statement is paradoxical.
For years, Pearson had rejected talk it would sell its salmon-colored, business-focused title. But its Chief Executive JF insists it’s the best way to ensure the FT’s success, becoming part of a global, digital news company. The former CE reshaped Pearson into an education specialist, but she would reject to sell FT. And Mr. Fallon also has repeated called the news group essential to the company’s commercial and strategic vision.
Japan’s media culture is different in many ways from that in the West, which could raise challenges.
Pearson focused on Education.
Its education operations remain “deeply challenged”.
Amid flagging Western education markets, the company is bolstering its global presence: follow a wave of digitization, increase online services.

Officers in Washington want to change American’s strategy toward China, since they thought China wants to become East Asia’ hegemon instead of becoming a democratic and peaceful power.
Thomas J. Christensen disagrees. He advocates to view China as a potential partner than a potential adversary.
Though Mr. C presents his case in a scholarly and accessible fashion, contradiction and omission make it unconvincing.
