I don't think Kellogg in anyway neglects the China region. It's true that it hasn't accepted as many as Chicago GSB has done in the past few years. (I don't have the REAL statistics at both schools. CD forum is just a sample). One key that contributed to the different acceptance ratio of mainland applicants is the placement at both schools. Kellogg is known as a GM/Marketing school. And marketing, as far as I know, has not been superfriendly to non-native English speakers. Chicao GSB is known as a feeder to quant-heavy finance school, which is our strength. US economy has been down in the past few years (2002-2004), As always, b-schools are concerned with placement, as it plays right into the ranking. It's hard to tell how many Chinese have applied to either school. Perhaps it also reflects the trends of applicants. It almost seems like eveyone here on CD is interested in finance (IB, IM, PE).
I cannot comment on the "brand name" of these two in China. In the US, they are considered equally caliber, both are solid M7. People apply based on their post-MBA plans. It also depends on your personal style. Do you prefer to study/work in team or by yourself?
