请问题干第二句（红字）的理解是不是：广告和免费提供的donuts 的成本超过了由促销产生的新交易所能补偿的？也就是说，新交易产生的利润不能补偿广告和提供免费donuts 的费用啊？那不就是亏本吗？我看了半天找不到答案，难道我理解反了？请大家指教，不胜感激啊

可以理解成 Donut Chain calculates that the cost of the advertisement and the free donuts will be more than （ the cost that will be）recouped by the new business generated through the promotion. ？

到底 cost 大还是 recouped 大？

为什么还没有人回啊，难道是这问题太弱智了吗？按照Manhattan 的说法，是成本小于盈利，就是说促销帮公司赚钱了。我真的不明白，这个句子的语法要怎么分析啊。难道是cost will be recouped by **more? 那么那个than 又是连接了什么呢？头疼啊，求解释

个人觉得先去掉 more than ,你读读：Donut Chain calculates that the cost of the advertisement and the free donuts will be recouped by the new business generated through the promotion. 很清楚sth be recouped by... 然后more than 来修饰下说明超过recouped。是成本小于盈利的
more than后面不一定要补出个什么把（这个我也没有理论依据），看看这个句子 His insolence is more than I can stand.

我个人觉得more than 这种表比较的词组，它的前后应该平行。浅吟天举得这个例子 His insolence is more than I can stand. more than 的前面是名词后面表面上看是个句子，实际上却是the insolence that I can stand的省略形式。more than的前后，more 所修饰的仍然是 insolence 这个相同的名词，因而省略。
而楼主的句子Donut Chain calculates that the cost of the advertisement and the free donuts will be more than recouped by the new business generated through the promotion. 确实匪夷所思。如果要将more than 后面所接的东西和前面部分作平行，那么理解成more than （ the cost that will be）recouped by the new business generated through the promotion ？就是说more 修饰的是cost，这未尝不可。我想来想去，觉得只能用老美的习惯来解释了。而且这是出自cr 的题目不是出自sc的题目，也许语法真的不是很严密。如果楼主的句子里，将than 去掉，变成 the cost will be more recouped by...或者将more 这个修饰recoup这个动词的副词，放在 recoup 后面，变成the cost will be recouped more by..显然要更好理解一点，似乎更合语法一些。
拙见，希望抛砖引玉。

recouped 的大 more than 在这里是个副词原文最后一句说的意思是广告和免费donut的成本将被利润（远远的）补偿。所以D 选项会weaken

从句被动倒装！顺序应该是the new business generated through the promotion will recoup more than the cost of the advertisement and the free donuts.
