A US commercial bank is looking for a compliance officer to support the Head of Compliance. This is a newly created role. It will start on 1 Mar. Major responsibilities include day-to-day surveillance, advisory to businesses, liaison with regulators (HKMA). The key requirements are NOT compliance experience but business acumen. The ideal candidate has solid understanding of corporate banking either through working in a bank or through working as an external auditor. The candidate has to speak English and Cantonese/Mandarin. At least 3 years experience. CPA or an advanced degree in finance, economics or business are preferred.

What the bank is looking for is someone that can be brought up to be an independent compliance manager. The high calibre candidate needs to be aware of regulators’ deadline, be well organized, be initiative, and be able to communicate effectively both internally and externally.
