Last
August the XT chain of gasoline stations had a temporary sales promotion in
effect. In the promotion, any customer who made a purchase of ten or more
gallons of gasoline was entitled to a free car wash. For the month of August,
XT experienced a ten percent increase in gasoline sales as compared to sales in
August the previous year, so evidently the promotion was successful as a means

楼上的,很支持你的想法,和我选这道题目时候的想法一样,但是现在觉得C也不对,因为不管加油的人相比次数减少,每次加油量多,(以获得免费洗车的促销服务),文章最终还是告诉了一个事实,就是销售总量相比过去8月还是提高了。就是说不管消费者的行为模式发生了什么变化,最后结果就是销售量增加了。而文章问的不是针对这个结果的,而是针对这个结果和促销的关系-是不是促销导致的。

但是我觉得A也不好,原因和你想的一样。应该有个选项是同一地区同一时间非促销的加油站销售是否增加。

这里只讨论 sale比去年同期增加是不是因为 promotion,
因此A通过和其他加油站比较可以得出结论(比如别人没有做promotion   sale也长了那显然就和 promotion无关)
而B 说价格是这道题不讨论的

在下愚见,还望指教

我认为答案应是A。请注意结论: Evidently the promotion was successful as a means of boosting sales. 这里要评估的是,这个promotion在促进销售量上是否成功,而非在促进利润上是否成功。如果free car wash的支出比销售量增加带来的收入还多,那这个promotion不是一个成功的增加利润的方式,但不能证明它不是一个成功的促进销售量的方式。所以B不正确。

A讲的是,该地区各加油站总体的汽油销售量在上一个八月和更前一个八月的比较,那么,如果拿这个XT加油站销售量的增幅和这个总体的增幅来比较,就可以知道XT的销售量增幅是否超群,从而可以看出这个free car wash的措施是否促进销售量大增

agree with A

B only talk about whether the revenue cover the cost, doesn't mention about the promotion.

A compare the revenue WITH promotion and WITHOUT promotion, so its the answer.

支持simon观点,问题关键在问题本身,题目说的是boosting the sales

A, B 是很典型的有关无关的choices. B: profits, A. sales/revenue. 文章结论是讲sales's result. ==> A

结论是针对sales而不是profit提出的.这里C才是个很强的干扰项.

A:XT所在地区的加油站总的汽油销量去年和前年相比.

C:如果XT没有促销,那些现在买了ten or more gallons汽油的顾客,其中是不是有人会买更少的量,但是买得更勤. (因为超过ten gallons才有free car wash)

这两个选项都和evaluation的结论相关.

A:如果地区的汽油销量去年比增加很多(>10%),说明他因可能导致XT的汽油销量增加.而不是promotion.否则,promotion有效.

C:干扰项.C不能evaluation在于"where there any",是否存在这类顾客并不能衡量promotion的效果.要衡量的话,必须要用这类顾客占全部顾客的比例.如果绝大多数的顾客都每次加更多油,加的次数比以前少.才会影响promotion的效果.

居然把A看成重复题目的前提信息了,没注意到时当地所有的加油站销量。。。。
