Which of the following most logically completes the argument?

Although the pesticide TDX has been widely used by fruit growers since the early 1960's, a regulation in force since 1960 has prohibited sale of fruit on which any TDX residue can be detected. That regulation is about to be replaced by one that allows sale of fruit on which trace amounts of TDX residue are detected. In fact, however, the change will not allow more TDX on fruit than was allowed in the 1960's, because ______.

37. Which of the following most logicallycompletes the argument?

Although the pesticide TDX has been widely used by fruit growers since the early 1960s, a regulation in force since 1960 has prohibited sale of fruit on which any TDX residue can be detected . That regulation is about to be replaced by one that allows sale of fruit on which trace amounts of TDX residue are detected . In fact, however, the change will not allow more TDX on fruit than was allowed in the 1960s, because __.

(A) pre-1970 techniques for detecting TDX residue could detect it only when it was present on fruit in more than the trace amounts allowed by the new regulations
(B) many more people today than in the 1960s habitually purchase and eat fruit without making an effort to clean residues off the fruit
(C) people today do not individually consume any more pieces of fruit, on average, than did the people in the 1960s
(0) at least a small fraction of the fruit sold each year since the early 1960s has had on it greater levels of TDX than the regulation allows
(E) the presence of TOX on fruit in greaterthan trace amounts has not been shown to cause any harm even to children who eat large amounts of fruit

38. Which of the following best completes the passage below?

The more worried investors are about losing their money, the more they will demand a high potential return on their investment; great risks must be offset by the chance of great rewards. This principle is the fundamental one in determining intere st rates , and it is illust rated by the fact that _ _.

(A) successful investors are distinguished by an ability to make very risky investments without worrying about their money
(B) lenders receive higher interest rates on unsecured loans than on loans backed by collateral
(C) in times of high inflation, the interestpaid to depositors by banks can actually be below the rate of inflation

39. A certain mayor has proposed a fee of five dollars per day on private vehicles entering the city, claiming that the fee will alleviate the city's traffic congestion. The mayor reasons that, since the fee will exceed the cost of round-trip bus fare from many nearby points, many people will switch from using their cars to using the bus.

Which of the following statements, if true, provides the best ev idence that the mayor's reasoning is flawed?

(A) Projected increases in the price of gasoline will increase the cost of taking a private vehicle into the city.
(8) The cost of parking fees already makes it considerably more expensive for most people to take a private vehicle into the city than to take a bus.
(C) Mostof the people currently riding the bus do not own private vehicles.
(D) Many commuters opposing the mayor's plan have indicated that they would rather endure traffic congestion than pay a five-dollar-per-dayfee.
(E) During the average workday, private vehicles owned and operated by people living within the city account for 20 percent of the city's traffic congestion.

40. Journalist: Well-known businessman Arnold Bergeron has long been popular in the state, and he has often talked about running for governor, but he has never run. However, we have just learned that Bergeron has fulfilled the financial disclosure requirement for candidacy by submitting a detailed list of his current fin ancial holdings to the election commission. So, it is very likely that Bergeron will be a candidate for governor this year.

The answer to which of the following questions would be most useful in evaluating the journalist's argument?

(A) Has anybody else who has fulfilled the financial disclosure requirement for the upcoming election reported greater financial holdings than Bergeron?
(8) Is submitting a list of holdings the only way to fulfill the election commission's financial disclosure requirements?
(C) Did the information recently obtained by the journalist come directly from the election commission?
(D) Have Bergeron's fina ncial holdings increased in value in recent years?
(E) Had Bergeron also fulfilled the financial disclosure requirements for candidacy before any previous gubernatorial elections?

The following appeared in an Avia Airlines departmental memorandum:
“On average, 9 out of every 1,000 passengers whotraveled on Avia Airlines last year filed a complaint about ourbaggage-handling procedures. This means that although some 1 percent of ourpassengers were unhappy with those procedures, the overwhelming majority werequite satisfied with them; thus it would appear that a review of the proceduresis not important to our goal of maintaining or increasing the number of Avia’spassengers.”

1. more than 1 minute!!!
-1960s, fruits with any residual TDX have been prohibited for sale
-new regulation allows the sale of fuits with a trace amount of TOX detected.
guess fill in: no idea.
A

2. 20s

-greater risk is accompanied with higher return.
-these principle is fundamental in determing interest rates.
guess becuase: fear generates risk taking capability???
B, 纠结了A

3. 26s
-5 dollar fee is required to enter the city to alleviate traffic.
-because the payment will exceed the round-trip bus fare to the city, so people will take the bus instead of driving a car.
guess flaw: car can take up to 4 or 5 person at once, but bus 1 fare per person per ride.

4. 29s
-B is a popular business man in the state.
-people thought he would run for election but he never did so.
-he submitted financial disclosure requirement for election.
-conclusion: he will run for election.
guess evaluate: no idea...maybe look up the historical election record to see how much percentage of people who submitted the financial disclosure but didn't eventually run for election.
E

P: The regulation was used to detect the fruits with TDX pesticide, and then the old regulation is replaced by the new one.
C: The new regulation doesn't allow pesticide more than the does the old regulation.
Complete: The old regulation has a very low standard for TDX pesticide on fruits.
A: A

(A) pre-1970 techniques for detecting TDX residue could detect it only when it was present on fruit in more than the trace amounts allowed by the new regulations
(B) many more people today than in the 1960s habitually purchase and eat fruit without making an effort to clean residues off the fruit
(people's eating habitat is irrelevant)
(C) people today do not individually consume any more pieces of fruit, on average, than did the people in the 1960s
(this doesn't refer anything about the new regulation)
(0) at least a small fraction of the fruit sold each year since the early 1960s has had on it greater levels of TDX than the regulation allows
(it doesn't explain why the new regulation only allows less TDX)
(E) the presence of TDX on fruit in greaterthan trace amounts has not been shown to cause any harm even to children who eat large amounts of fruit
(the cause of any harm is irrelevant here)

(D) Many commuters opposing the mayor's plan have indicated that they would rather endure traffic congestion than pay a five-dollar-per-dayfee.
(E) During the average workday, private vehicles owned and operated by people living within the city account for 20 percent of the city's traffic congestion.

----> submit the list of holdings
(C) Did the information recently obtained by the journalist come directly from the election commission?
(D) Have Bergeron's fina ncial holdings increased in value in recent years?
(E) Had Bergeron also fulfilled the financial disclosure requirements for candidacy before any previous gubernatorial elections?
