1.
Which of the following, if true , most logically completes the argument below?
Manufacturers arenow required to make all cigarette lighters child-resistant by equipping them with safety levers.
Butthis change is unlikely to result in a significant reduction in the number of fires caused by children playing with
lighters, because children given the opportunity can figure out howto workthe safety levers and _ _ .
(A) the addition of the safety levers has made lighters more expensive than they were before the requirement
was instituted
(8) adults are more likely to leave child-resistant lighters than non-child-resistant lighters in places that are
accessible to children
(C) many of the fires started by young children are quickly detected and extinguished by their parents
(D) unlike child-resistant lighters, lighters that are not child-resistant can be operated by children as young as
two years old
(E) approximately 5,000 fires per year have been attributed to children playingwith lighters before the safety
levers were required

2. Acost-effective solution to the problemof airport congestion is to provide high-speed ground transportation
between major cities lying 200 to 500 miles apart. The successful implementation of this plan would cost far
less than expanding existing airports and would also reduce thenumber of airplanes clogging both airports and
airways.
Which of the following, if true, could proponents of the plan above most appropriately cite as a piece of evidence
for the soundness of their plan?
(A) An effective high-speed ground-transportation system would require major repairs to many highways and
mass-transit improvements.
(B) One-half of all departing flights in the nation's busiest airport head for a destination in a major city
225 miles away.
(e) The majority of travelers departing from rural airports are flying to destinations in cities over 600 miles
away.
(D) Many new airports are being built in areas that are presently served by high-speed ground-transportation
systems.
(E) Alarge proportion of air travelers are vacationers who aretaking long-distance flights .

3. People's television-viewing habits could be monitored by having television sets, when on , send out low-level
electromagnetic waves that are reflected back to the sets. The reflected waves could then be analyzed to
determine how many persons are within theviewing area of the sets. Critics fear adverse health effects of such
a monitoring system, but a proponent responds, "The average dose of radiation is less than one chest x-ray. As
they watch, viewers won'tfeel a thing."
Which of the following issues would it be most important to resolve in evaluating the dispute concerning the
health effects of the proposed system?
(A) Whether the proposed method of monitoring viewership can distinguish between people and pets
(B) Whether radar speed monitors also operate on the principle of analyzing reflected waves of
electromagnetic radiation
(C) Whether the proposed system has been tried out in various areas of the country or in a single area only
(D) What uses are foreseen for the viewership data
(E) Whether the average dose that the proponent describes is a short-termdose or a lifetime cumulative dose

4. The price the government pays for standard weapons purchased from military contractors is determined by a
pricing method called "historical costing." Historical costing allows contractors to protect their profits by adding
a percentage increase, based onthe current rate of inflation, to the previous year's contractual price.
Which of the following statements, if true, is the best basis for a criticism of historical costing as an
economically sound pricing method for military contracts?
(A) The government mightcontinue to payfor past inefficient use of funds.
(8) The rate of inflation has varied considerably over the pasttwentyyears.
(el The contractual pricewill be greatly affected by the cost of materials used for the products.
(D) Many taxpayers question the amount of money the government spends on military contracts.
(E) The pricing method based on historical costing might not encourage the development of innovative
weapons.

5.AA:
The following appeared as part of a recommendation from the financial planning office to the administration of Fern
Valley University:
“In the past few years, Fern Valley University has suffered from a decline in both enrollments and admissions
applications. The reason can be discovered from our students, who most often cite poor teaching and inadequate
library resources as their chief sources of dissatisfaction with Fern Valley. Therefore, in order to increase the number
of students attending our university, and hence to regain our position as the most prestigious university in the greater
Fern Valley metropolitan area, it is necessary to initiate a fund-raising campaign among the alumni that will enable us
to expand the range of subjects we teach and to increase the size of our library facilities.”

1. 26s
For safety requirements, manufactures now produce the lighters with safe levers on them.
Conclusion:
The safety situation will not change.
Reasons:
1. Children still can learn how to make the levers out.
2. Because the parents consider it safe, the lighters will be put in the places within the catch of children.
B

Goal: reduce the cost of expanding airport and the congestion of airway and airports.
Method: provide transistion buses between cities lying in 200-500 kms.
Support:
1. many airplanes travel between such two cities. With this method, those airlines could be cut.
2. The cost of providing buses are much lower than the cost of adding new airplanes.

3. 1:15 T.T
there is a monitoring system that can test the radiation of TV to people.
But opponents fear that the system may have adverse health effect.
But some argue that the system has only a dose of the radiation.
Evaluation:
Whether a dose of radiation will treathen people's health.
E

4. 41s
Premise: "histrical costing" for military tools are based on the historical price last year and the inflaction rates.
Conclusion: it's a economically effective method.
Weaken:
The original price is unreasonable.

P: some worry about the wave will send with radiation and harm people.
C: the wave will no harm to the audience since its affect will be less than X-ray.
A:E

4 30s
p: what price the government will pay the weapon sellers is decided by a method called"historical costing".
p: the price of the weapons is based on the inflation of this year and the price of the previous year.
c:  the method sound economically.
weaken: other factors will effect the price and make the real price lower than the selling price.
A: A(别的都不对,但其实A 也有些看不明白~)

22s
P: The manufacture produces a new lighter with lever to avoid children's play.
C: However, the lever will not prevent children's play since they will be given opportunity to learn how to use lever.
Complete: children can learn quickly / parents will provide an environment for these children to learn.
A: B

32s
P: The new plan of airport is to provide high-speed ground transportation within 200-500miles.

S: The distance of airplanes are always between 200-500 miles.
A: B

37s
B: The radiation wave of TV sets can get back to TV, and test the view area of numbers of people view TV.
P: The scientists said the radiation will bring adverse effect.
C: However, some people oppose this idea by saying that the radiation of TV sets is not as serious as X-ray, and people don't feel anything.
E: whether the accumulation of radiation of TV set can bring the adverse effect to people.
A: E

45s
C: The government purchases military equipment based on "historical cost"
P: Historical cost is based on the rate of current inflation to the contractual price in previous year.
W: contractual price is lower this year than last year.
A: A

AA:
Conclusion: The school will implement a fund-raising campaign among alumni to increase teaching and library resources.
1. The poor teaching and library resources are two different categories. Poor teaching might be caused by the quality of faculty instead of funding.
2. In order to evaluate carefully about the comments of students, are these students who are surveyed are representative?
3. How to ensure the Fund raising campaign will be successful if the alumni never satisfy with the school's teaching quality and the library resources, in this case, they won't like to sponsor.
4. The cause-effect relationship is ambiguous.
5. Other factors should be taken into consideration as well, such as the location, local economy, etc.
