两道OG语法原题，请教大牛们...急。。。。。

第一题是关于代词的：
OG 12, 107题，pp677：Originally developed for detecting air pollutants, a technique called proton-induced X-ray emission, which can quickly analyze the chemical elements in almost any substance without destroying it, is finding uses in medicine, archaeology, and criminology. 这题答案就是选A，所以我就不打其它选项了，，疑问的是划线部分的it，不是指代的是elements 么？那应该是复数，应该用them才对啊？？？？这该怎么解释呢？？

第二题：OG 12，85，pp673：Salt deposits and moisture threaten to destroy the Mohenjo-Daro excavation in Pakistan, the site of an ancient civilization that flourished at the same time as the civilizations in the Nile Delta and the river valleys of the Tigris and Euphrates.
A that flourished at the same time as the civilizations
B that had flourished at the same time as had the civilizations
C that flourished at the same time those had
D floushing at the same time as those did
E flourishing at the same time as those were
这题答案是A，可是我选了B，我觉得B更符合平行结构，，到底我是哪里错了呢？？

it指代的是substance，分析物质的元素而不破坏这个物质
at the same time 应该没有指代一段时间的意思，完成时必须用一段时间的状语，我是这么想
助动词不补出是可以接受的，虽然不是最佳

第二题那个没有明确的时间点表明是过去的过去，所以不能用过去完成时
