Dear guys, could you leave a tiny face for Columbia cuz' I was admitted and I love this school......

I don't think Columbia lacks of transparency by the way. What kind of transparency do you want? Offer the reasons of ding for most of applicants? I don't think most of other top schools do so. Just say compared with others, Columbia is with no more transparency.

And don't think Columbia is less friendly to Chinese, either. I believe it is just because of the rolling basis admission process, many people get their ding letters earlier than from other school. But let’s see Wharton an example. I believe much more people don’t have interviews and finally get dings (they know the result at the final point) and I did not see any complaint.

For the early decision thing, I believe it works for every school. Let’s see this year’s Stanford, HBS… and I have no need to say there are many such examples.

In sum, each school has the admission strategy and I must say, Columbia is pretty special (or you could say strange) in admitting more Chinese students in early decision and high consideration on final yield. But it has nothing to do with emotional things like friendly, like, etc. For instance Stanford is highly selective and if applicants are unlucky to have an admit with similar background in previous rounds, the chance will be tiny. But you can’t say it is unfriendly to these applicants. This is only the rule.

And to Qima I think you are great and 2 nice schools’ admits have proved your potential. (Maryland is my dream too). I strongly believe the admit and school are only the start of our dreams. It may mean nothing after 10-20 years. So strong congratulations to your success in application! And same cong to others on this thread!!

No war here. My objective opinion is that Columbia is a good school that I admire.

Suncola, I agree with you. Columbia is the last school I applied and I submitted on Jan 9th. Still waiting for a possible interview invitation...

The Adcom has expressed clearly on the application website and the notification email that you will hear from the school in the 10-12 weeks after your submission. It claimed especially that the invitation or decision can come anytime, early or late, in the 10-12 weeks.

So it is not fair to blame the school for being not responsible at present just because one submitted in Jan and hasn't heard anything so far.

As per the so-called "unfriendliness" to Chinese students, I attended the 2 info. sessions held by Columbia in China last year including the Dean Reception and felt that the Adcom and faculty were trying their best to clear up the rumor through practice. Just take another example of CD's mainland admitted students by top-tier schools up to now, Columbia has admitted 2 while Kellogg, MIT & Yale reported none. Why not say these schools are unfriendly?
