啪啦了一个小时还不到500字, 月底考,沮丧~
To be an effective leader, a public official must maintain the highestethical and moral standards.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree ordisagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure toaddress the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used tochallenge your position.
The speaker claims that a public official should follow the highest ethicaland moral standards in order to become an effective leader. However, as far asI’m concerned, following the highest ethical and moral standards is not theprerequisite for being effective, nor even relates to high efficiency. Admittedly, public officials holding high ethical and moral standards tendto strive for the public benefits and therefore more welcome to the society. However,as mentioned by the speaker, if we justify a leader only in perspective ofbeing effective, in my preservation, it has little relation to hisethical and moral standards. As we know, Bill Clinton once has been involved insex scandals, which spread almost the whole world and undoubtedly have been astigma in his life. However, it seems like even though the scandals imposed himhuge adverse effects, actually his contribution to American couldn’t be effaced, since he made the rate of unemployment decline to the lowest point in Americanhistory and people not only Americans but also other countries have to respecthim as a great president. Another striking example is Hitler, who conqueredalmost half the Europe with the Nazi army. Eventhough he was wicked and cruel, if we assess his achievement only from hisefficiency, there is no doubt he could be one of the most effective leaders inhuman history.
People do not agree with me may argue that leaders with high ethical andmoral standards are also effective, such as Gandhi and Martin Luther King. It absolutelywould be better if leaders are in a high level of morality whatever in realmsof politics or businesses than without it. However, only maintaining a highethical and moral standards is far from enough to be an effective leader butmore likely to become a society example for people to respect and study. Inshort, maintaining high ethical and moral standards might make leadersadmirable but has nothing to do with high efficiency. Moreover, whether leaders are effective depends on their abilities, suchas responding promptly to situations, making crucial and provisional decisions, executing scheme effectively. To be an effective leader, he must possess atleast one of the characteristics as stated above. By scrutiny the effectiveleaders in history, as I mentioned above, no matter if he is wicked or not, there is no doubt that their achievements are decided by their abilities ratherthan their virtues. In sum, maintaining the highest ethical and moralstandards could help leaders to be admirable, however, it is not a prerequisitefor being effective. What decides leader to be effective or not is theirabilities rather than virtues. |
