Is it worthy to quit job and go for MBA at this time?
I have worked for a leading pharmaceutical company in US for seven years. If I am not an organic chemistry major, I would stay in this company untill I was laid off and get the severance package (~half a year salary). Being laidoff is sooner or later in pharmaceutical industry in US. However, since I have to deal with toxic chemicals everyday in my position, I always think of changing jobs. I just got MBA offer from Simon School (UofR). It's time for me to quit job and go to school. However, I hesitate to do this now. A lot of my friends got laid off recently, they worry about looking for jobs and make a living, If now I quit job and spend all my savings for a MBA, I often ask myself, is it worthy to do this? Can I find a job after MBA? My annual income is ~$70k now, I just got my green card last month and finally get "freedom". I started to look for other kind of job positions since last month, but no reply so far. I plan to keep looking for jobs other than a chemist. If I can find a similay paid position, I may give up MBA this fall. Can anyone give me any suggetion? Is it worthy to quit job and go for MBA under this economy condition? Thanks. |
