In the reading material, the author states that a group of people work more efficiently and effectively than a single person. In the listening section, however, the lecture says that team strategy have three defections as follows.

First, some people get a free-ride in the six months process, which means that they did not contribute to the project at all. Moreover, recognitions for the job are less than the reading material stated. The real contributors feel dissatisfied.

Second, the reading section says that a group can come up with highly creative solutions and work more quickly. In contrast, it takes a long time to reach consensus about how to deal with some problems. Once some influential people make bad comments of an idea, it would be dropped even though it is a good one. On the other hand, if influential people convince an idea is good even though other people warned that it may constitute detrimental elements to the whole project, the warn is ignored.

Finally, if the project is failed, the blame will be placed on all the members of the group, which is contrary to the reading material that taking part in a group process can be rewarding for members of the team.

In conclusion, the lecturer in the listening part clearly indentified the weakness in the reading passage that group process is rewarding and contributed to the whole team.

In the reading material, the author states that a group of people work more efficiently and effectively than a single person.我觉得这里最好不要用single person表示,用individual更合适 In the listening section, however, the lecture says that team strategy have has three defections as follows.

The author of the reading passage points out three theories to try to explain the function of Chaco Canyon in New Mexico in the American Southwest. The lecture, however, argues in each of these theories.

The lecture indicates that fireplaces in these structures are in contradiction with the huge size of these houses, so these are out for living. But the reading passage holds that the Chaco structures were purely residential.

The second theory, the Chaco structures were used to store food supplies, is refute by the lecture. He says a place that had been used for storing maize would have many traces of scattered Maize. But no clue indicates that there was a granary.

Finally, the third theory of reading passage, the house was as ceremonial centers, is confuted by the lecture. Because the great houses do not offer sufficient proof that this was a place for ceremonial activities. He thinks the pots were probably used by construction workers upon completion of the great houses.

The author of the reading passage points out three theories to try to explain the function of Chaco Canyon in New Mexico in the American Southwest. The lecture, however, argues in(with)each of these theories.

The lecture indicates that fireplaces in these structures are in contradiction withthe huge size of these houses, so these are out for living.(这个地方Alex可以再听一下,应该是内部结构反驳了居住理论。然后细节是:听力说fireplaces数量比较少,最大的一个巨屋只供十余户居住,但是空间供百余户住在Great Houses里面。) But the reading passage holds that the Chaco structures were purely residential.

The second theory, the Chaco structures were used to store food supplies, is refute(d) by the lecture. He says a place that had been used for storing maize would have many traces of scattered Maize. But no clue indicates that there was a granary(高级词汇,但是感觉好像不是特别合适呢~).

Finally, the third theory of reading passage, the house was as ceremonial centers, is confuted by the lecture(r). Because the great houses do not offer sufficient proof that this was a place for ceremonial activities. He thinks the pots were probably used by construction workers upon completion of the great houses.

In terms of the listening passage, the professor refutes the standpoints stated in the reading passage by presenting evidences to prove that it is biased and ignorant to judge online encyclopedias in the way the reading passage presents.

First, the professor claims that errors are inevitable for an encyclopedia, while those errors in online encyclopedias are even easier to be corrected. He maintains that traditional encyclopedias are far from entirely comprehensive, and it takes decades for expert to come up with a new version to correct the errors. From this perspective, the idea presents in the reading passage that online encyclopedias are more vulnerable to inaccuracies is untenable.

Second, the professor points out that there are effective strategies to protect the online encyclopedias from malicious changes like hacking. The strategies include the read-only format that prevents the users from fabricating information, and special controlled by experts to ensure that the crucial facts are reliable and that all changes to the articles are monitored. Therefore, the statement in the reading passage that hackers would tamper online encyclopedias cannot stand on its own.

Third, instead of worrying about excessive information, the professor states that a wide scope of information proves to be the strongest advantage of online encyclopedias. He holds that traditional encyclopedias lack the width of interest due to the confinement of experts who edit them. However, online encyclopedias not only include academic materials, but also reflect a great diversity of user’s interests. Such view renders the worry in the reading passage unnecessary.

In all, the professor contradicts the viewpoint in the reading passage in the abovementioned three aspects to demonstrate that online encyclopedias are not inferior to traditional ones.

The reading passage and the lecture suggest two different theories
a predation theory and a pollution theory, to explain why the sea otter population is in rapid decline

Firstthe reading passage points out the sea is polluted without doubt, which cause the death of sea otters. In contrast, the professor reasons that less death sea otters washed up the coast suggests that their decline is not caused by water pollution but rather by sea predators who consume sea otters’ bodies after killing them.

Second, the lecturer argues that orcas are likely factors in the dead of sea otters, because the scarcity of whales, their usual prey, has left them with no other choice but to start hunting smaller mammals such as the otters. The reading passage, on the other hand, Rules out this theory based on the orca's preying habit, and instead approves of the pollution theory as the only explanation for the decline op both large and small sea mammals across the entire ecosystem.

Last, according to the lecturer, the uneven pattern of sea otter decline corresponds to the distribution of the orcas. However, the reading passage argues that changeable environmental factors, which lead to different concentrations of pollutants, better explains the varying pattern of sea otter decline.
