Top U.S. MSF/MFE programs (Princeton MFin, Berkeley MFE, CMU MSCF, NYU MSMF, Chicago MSFM, Columbia MSFE, Stanford MSFM, etc.) are very quantitative in nature and will like to see applicants with deep roots in mathematics, engineering and hard sciences. Suggest LS take at least 2 courses in Calculus (Single-Variable and Multivariate Calculus), 1 course in Linear Algebrea, 1 course in Ordinary Differential Equations, 1 course in Calculus-based Probability, 1 course in Statistics and some courses in C++ programming. GRE Math subject test is not required by most schools except Chicago. Second-tier MSF/MFE programs are waste of time and money. Pure MSF programs without quantitative elements are in an awkward position as they are weaker in well-roundedness than traditional MBA programs and crashed by MFE programs in sophisticated quantitative applications.
