Hi Thorny, as you said, one's panacea may just poison others, you have to find the difference for yourself. I think Duke will definitely grant you more opportunities for future interns and jobs. Saying so, I also want to tell that as a student of Goizueta of Emory, you will have plenty of chances too. The Career Management Center is doing its best to help students secure at least one intern before the summer begins and the stat of last week is that more than 18% have already got at least one intern offer, many of which from big names from the Wall Street. McKinsey, BCG, Bain are now giving second round interviews and many students got the invitations, including a Chinese student. Good luck for your decision process and again, congratulations for your great job! The following is the message I left talking about the intern opportunity now on campus.

One more thing, the recruiting season (I mean for interns) already began, I found the econ of US is definitely getting better since so many international classmates have already secured internship offers from big names such as JP Morgan Chase, Lehman, Bear Stern, Banc of America, SG Cowen and some other banks like Goldman, Merrill Lynch are about to extend intern offers pretty soon. So, when you are here, I think things would be even better!

As you know, finding marketing interns is a bit harder than interns for either IB or corperate finance. But there are opportunities for Chinese students with marketing concentration. Since I am not a marketing guy, I don't know too much about interns for marekting. As far as I know, last year, interns for Chinese students with marketing concentration included Coca-cola, some NGO and some other companies. (Really sorry for my ignorance about the internships for marketing.) As for this year, since interviews for marketing positions don't commence this early, so far as I know people just handed in their resumes. DuPont just conducted its interviews today and I think surely there will be more companies on the way.

Other possible interns for marketing guys may lie in consulting firms. McKinsey, Bain, BCG, AT Kearney, Deloitte, Adjoined Consulting, ersonName w:st="on">Booz Allen HamiltonersonName>, etc. are all recruiting interns on campus and one of my classmates from Shanghai already got invitation from Bain, AT, Deloitte and Adjoined.

For your last question, there are currently 9 students are form Chinese Mainland, 4 of us are of marketing concentration. Generally speaking, IB and consulting firms are more open to international students. Hope this may help a little.

Seems everybody has different view over this issue....

I00,000USD is huge for me, even though i am confident that if i work in the States, I will finally pay off, but i will have to take the huge burden with me at least for 4~5years, i guess?

I love the atmosphere in duke, and many friends have strongly recommended Duke. But i am not so ambitious and i just want to earn some education, and have a career that i like.

Emory is generous, i just dont know how reputable is Emory in the States. Anyone has any idea?

I remember one of Duke alumni said, the best choice for any other people might not be the most suitable choice for you.

i am so lost...

1/3 tuition waiver against full tuition waiver? the difference should be about 50k, not 100k, right?

Hi Uiber, Thanks a lot for all your input here. Are you a current Emory student or...?  I have to say that this multiple choice question has become more complicated as more schools are sending out offers. I'v got a half-tuition waiver offer from Tuck also.  Now, Tuck, Emory, Duke. What a hard choice!....though Olin has been excluded from my list...

I just dont know if i should take the risk and burden to borrow a huge loan(even if 50K USD) for my MBA study. I am going for an MBA just because i need the academic education and i want to shift to management consulting.  I want some easy life, and i dont have great ambition. Sorry for this. Do you think Tuck/Duke will make much difference on me from what Emory will do?

BTW, anyone has any idea about the "deposit"? What if i fail to get the visa? Will the school return the deposit? I20 will only be issued after i pay deposit? I am still blind to visa stuff.

It is sure that you should choose Emory with full scholarships. The difference between Duke and Emory is not so big as that between NYU and Baurch( is that a right name?).

Money is the king for MBAs.

Congratulations!

Congratulations! Half-tuition waiver from Tuck, you are awesome! You should really enjoy your sweet problem now! :p

As you may know, I am a current first year student of Emory's Goizueta Business School. I don't know your background, but I think if you want a career shift after graduation to management consulting, it might be easier for you to obtain success and smooth transfer if your school's ranking is higher. I should say the higher the better. The reason is that according to my limited experience, IB and consulting are pretty picky when they select interns. Background really counts and if you are not from traditional track, better ranking would give you a make-up.

On the other hand, I can proudly tell that so many of my classmates (more international than American) are taking their second round of interviews with McKinsey, Bain, BCG, Deloitte, AT Kearney, etc. With the rising of the ranking of Goizueta, students of this year are experiencing even better prospect than say Class04 and Class05.

I know this is really a hard decision since it is so important. You have achieved such a great success for application, surely you are gonna secure another one when you are choosing which to attend. I wish I may have chance to welcome you on the beautiful campus of Emory and introduce you the amazingly friendly community, but you will definitely get my best wishes too if you would like to view the quite and also scenic town in New Hampshire.

Great luck to you!

Thorny, support you whatever decision you make! Tuck & Duke are both great schools and so is Emory!

Having said that, I personally wish to see you in Duke this fall

do you mean the waive of whole tuition by "full scholarship"? so the difference is about 50K, right?

If I were you, I will choose emory. I think duke is outside the top 10 now, and very difficult to get in again. so the difference is not worth of 50K.

Actually, I am thinking of 师傅领进门,修行靠个人. with emory, you still pursue your dreams with out any problems as you would do in duke.
