Leftover women in China refer to women over 25. The author of Never get married before age 30 argues that women are taught to go to good college and find a good job before mid-20, but after that parents urge them to focus more on how to become a good wife and mother. The situation for leftover women is worsen, and schools have classes of teaching how to get married.

main idea: Chinese women are suffering from new forms of gender inequality such as called leftover once over 27
attitude:seriously concerned
structure:
1)Chinese women are urged to get married earlier or they are called 'leftover'. Actually there are more leftover man partly because the sex ratio and partly because educated women are more picky.
2)The coercion of Chinse women into marriage is troubling economic consequences in two ways:
#1.real state normally under the name of the husband, ignoring women's contribution in buying a house
#2.employment rate of working women is dropping
3) more about real state
Parents financially assist their son to buy a house. Women have no private house without parents' help.
The New Marriage Law that is thought to promote gender equality states that houses belong to the name registered, which derive women's rights to own the house if they get divorced.
3) domestic violence
Laws against domestic violence are weak. In China women are discouraged to report abuse, and marital rape is not condered a crime. Women's personal safety are not effectively protected.
However, there are some inspiring stories in Fincher's book. For example, Kim lee, Li Yang's wife, was abused by Li for a long time, and reported to the public despite being threatened by Li and other men. Finally she get divorced, although an attorney said Lee got fewer assets than supposed.
4) Fincher's book also include other stories of women fighting against sexism
