大家都知道美国MBA也好、世界MBA也好都有各种各样的排名,USNEWS,Business Week,Financial Times和Economist等。大家有没有想过,这些排名他的意义是什么呢?在我看来,这些排名他是一个媒体指数,换句话说,某个权威媒体认为某校应该第一,某校应该前十。这些媒体排名一定程度上代表了一种“General Perception”。我们很多同学以这些排名作为风向标,觉得排名高的就是比排名低的更值得去,这点我认为有待商权。为什么呢?因为每个人的要求不同,排名的方法论未必和你在意的属性相一致,这样的话,他所排出来的名次,和你所在意的属性的名次并不重合。举个栗子。在USNEWS的排名方法论中,Mean GMAT and GRE scores 占到高达16.25%的权重,但我的同学的平均GMAT成绩和GRE分数真的对我而言很重要么?如果排名所依赖的属性并不是我们在意的属性,那么根据这些属性排列出来的学校排名对我们的参考价值就有限了。
对于MBA来说,每个人都有自己的需求和在意的东西,对于那些最在意就业的我们来说,如果我们把和就业以外的所有属性全部排除,只根据就业数据来进行排名,我们就能看到最能反映我们的需要的学校排序,那就是就业的排名。
在这里,我斗胆提出一个就业数据指标,那就是MBA学校就业指数=学生毕业后第一年的平均起始收入 * 毕业三个月内的签约率。换句话说,就是平均毕业生第一年收入的数学期望。这个数据本质上就是,如果你录取了这个学校,你应该期待你的第一年的收入是多少 (Expected Pay)。这个指数同时综合考虑了薪酬值和就业率。
而这两个数据在USNEWS的排名里是公开的。学生毕业后第一年的平均起始收入即为average starting salary and bonus。毕业三个月内的签约率是Offer acceptance rate three months after graduation。
1. 和USNEWS本身的排名相比,此排名中Top30最大的赢家是Rice,在USNEWS仅排名33,但本排名进入到前20。最大的下滑来自于UCLA,从16变成了25。
2. 沃顿以极大优势(5000+ dollars above Tuck)遥遥领先于其他所有学校,排名第一。Tuck的就业数据也强到发指,平均收入和就业率双双高于HBS。
3. 对于还没有申请且目标在Top 30以外的学校的同学,某些学校和USNEWS相比的排名大幅上升,非常值得关注,比如Rutgers, Wake Forest 和University of Tennessee—Knoxville
1. Bonus是one time payment。
2. 只考虑了第一年的收入。
3. 就业率低有的时候是因为不少学生去创业了,这种情况在Stanford,HBS,Haas,MIT和UCLA里面比较常见。
