如果选C，那么补充完整了不就是：more babies were born to women over the age of 30 than they were (born to women) under it.
than 后面的they 指代 babies， 这样的话than 前后都是一样的结构不是更平行么？

看以看到比较部分的主more babies 谓 were born to 宾women都完全一致，其实比较的是宾补over the age of thirty vs. under it(it指代 the age of thirty )（此处是介词短语），所以根据比较结构的省略原则：完全一样的“主谓宾”可以省略而只留下宾补。故A选项最优。

你的问题：
