Do you agree or disagree with the following statement:
People holding different views cannot achieve success as a team.
Generally, people tend to believe that team members sharing the same idea work together more smoothly and successfully than those who hold different opinions. However, I disagree. I'm convinced that the latter have a better chance of success, and the reasons will be depicted as follows.
First, teams with different opinions have a higher chance to success because they have more solutions. They only need to arrange a meeting to discuss about everyone's view, analyze pros and cons, and make a final decision. For example, the team members working on iPhone's appearance might have various suggestions about where the earphone hole should be located, how much longer the phone should be extended, and what additional colors should be added in the case collection. Through a discussion of everybody's opinions, the team can easily come up with a feasible and perfect design. On the other hand, if everyone in the team has the same thought, there is no meaning to design or to create at all. In a word, only different views lead to perfect solutions.
Even in the case that people don't give up their own thoughts, great success can be achieved through reasonable compromise. One example will suffice. Once an art team was planning to build a statue in our neighborhood, and the designer Peter and William had a serious conflict. Peter was a fan of Chinese element, while William was insisting on European style. After some serious discussions, they came up with a compromised plan that satisfied both of their desire- they built a statue of the Freedom Goddess with china. This statue was so beautiful and unique that once it's finished, hundreds of people travel to our town everyday just to admire it. Obviously, a team with different opinions can not only success, but also make miracle happen.
Someone might argue that, a team with different views will work in separate directions, which highly decrease the efficiency. I disagree. In fact, a team carefully divided can corporate in a higher efficiency. In the example above, Peter, in responsible for the Chinese element, led some team members to concentrate on collecting china and decorating them. While William and his men carefully designed the sketch of the statue and made the construction. Finally, this team turned out to work quite efficiently and successfully.
As is argued above, I believe that a team with different voices has a better chance to succeed and that, rather than lowering the efficiency, the various opinions actually improve it. Moreover, varied views might even make miracles happen. |
