Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
In order to succeed, you should be more like others than be different from everyone else.

There is an adage of Harvard University that says, “Study when others are sleeping,” the implication being that difference makes you more excellent. I totally agree with the statement.
Admittedly, being like others brings us sense of belonging, and we usually tend to make friends with those who have something in common. A broad interpersonal relationship will definitely contribute to your success. However, suppose you are the chief executive officer of a company, it is no surprise that you will focus on the niche market rather than the highly-sought-after market. Take Jobs as an example. In the first few years after he became the CFO of Apple Co., he made great efforts to simplify the variety of productions. Unlike other companies, Apple Co. focused on developing specific kinds of products, such as iPod, iPhone etc. Also, those products afford consumers better user experience than those of competitors, which attracts customers a lot. Such differences make Apple Co. gain huge success. The same case can be also applied to countries. China is well known for its core competence: cheap labor and raw material. So it is not hard to imagine that Chinese production industries are very competitive in the international market.
Most of us are ordinary people, who have yearning for rich lives without endeavor. However, successful people are always the 20 percent. To be success, we should overcome deep-rooted bad characters and abandon such sort of thoughts, although it is difficult to be not ordinary. Kobe, the famous basketball player in NBA, is the idol of many people. At an interview, a journalist asked him the reason why he was so successful. He said that he knew what Los Angles looked like every day at four o’clock a.m. Not many people are able to get up so early every morning.
For centuries, people have evolved from the same genes. But it does not mean that we should be more like others than different form everyone else in order to succeed. A recent research has showed that successful people usually have some invaluable virtues that are different from others, such as tenacity and altruistic. These invaluable virtues contribute greatly to success.
For those reasons discussed above, we can safely conclude that, to succeed, we should be different from everyone else rather than be like to others.
