1.        Q: Is it better for recommenders to be work-related or academically related?

A: The answer to your question largely depends on your current situation. As I might have mentioned earlier, if you have work history, we would suggest obtaining letters from supervisors or professional colleagues. In fact, most business schools (not all) are biased toward LORs from professional sources. However, if you are a recent undergrad, letters from professors will suffice, certainly.  

It also depends on the type of Management degree that you are pursuing. If its more quantitative or skill specific, like Financial Engineering or Accounting, then it might be worthwhile to obtain at least one letter from a professor who is an expert in the field.

2.        Q: When is the best time to approach your references? Right as the applications are being released? Before they are released?

A: Make sure you contact and speak with your references two weeks before the application deadline. Most likely, they will submit their letters then; and by then, the admission office of the school you are applying to would have already created a file for you. This way, there will be an application file waiting for them, and the rest of your documents.
其实越早让你的推荐人知道要写推荐信越好， 因为他们也是大忙人， 需要为他们腾出时间为你写推荐信。


3.        Q: When picking someone to write your LOR what should you look for? For example is a former supervisor who knows you well professionally but not personally any better or worse than a friend, who happens to be on the faculty at the school you are applying to, but doesn't know you that well professionally?

A: I, personally, believe that obtaining a letter from someone who knows you professionally (and not so much personally), will go further than a letter about your personal qualities and characteristics. At least with the professional letter, adcoms can get an insights as to your work ethic and attitudes. But, that being said, both will suffice.
还是需要找了解你的工作上司来写推荐信比较好， 最好是能具体了解你做什么， 能在文章中用具体工作上的实例来突显你的技能的推荐人。 其实头衔不是太重要， 重要的是内容。
