今天在看YP长难句的时候，发现其实有很多东西自己还理解的不够到位，有几个问题不知道小默和小汐能不能帮我看一下啊？

1.This preference for exogamy，Gutman suggests， may have derived from West African rules governing marriage，which，though they differed from one tribal group to another，all involved some kind of prohibition against unions with close kin.

这里的may have derived from West African rules governing marriage，YP是讲，governing marriage是作为分词修饰West African rules 。
我的理解：West African rules governing 是修饰marriage的。就是由非洲西部的规定制约着的婚姻。
我这样肯定是不对的，可又想不太明白。

2.Such variations in size, shape, chemistry, conduction speed, excitation threshold, and the like as had been demonstrated in nerve cells remained negligible in significance for any possible correlation with the manifold dimensions of mental experience.
类似于这些已经被在神经细胞中证明的在大小、形状、化学过程、产生的速度、兴奋阈值及其类似的方面上所发生变化，当他们被用来与大脑的体验以可能的方式联系起来的时候，他们在重要性上仍然是微不足道的。

书上说，这是一个such thing as something的结构，such things as a remain negligible in a certain sense.
我的理解：主句such variations in ..remained negligible ..
               而the like （as had been demonstrated in nerve cells ），括号内的是修饰like的。

苦闷啊。。是不是问的很低级。。

首先，不要贬低自己，不要觉得问的很低级什么的=）
问题就仅仅是问题而已，没有高低贵贱之分

下面我说说我的想法，小汐补充哦

小默：你看我标注的颜色，黑色部分是主语主句，红色部分是修饰紧贴在前面的名词的修饰短语，绿色部分是更为不重要（因为被逗号隔开了，所以更不重要）的插入修饰语，蓝色是主要分句。为什么可以判断rules是被修饰对象而marriage只是修饰语？关键是，看主要分句在修饰什么。主要分句中的代词，是they，显然只能指代rules。如果去掉rules，你会发现句子就不对了。而且从句意进行理解，怕热ference for exogamy，这是一种婚姻的形式，而不是婚姻本身；能够differed from一个不落到另外一个部落的，也只能是婚姻的规则约束等等，不能是婚姻本身。所以，讨论的对象是rules，而不是marriage。

小默：黑色部分是主语主句，有颜色部分是修饰成分。在这里and the like=.etc，翻译成中文就是“等等”，也就是YP所翻译的“及其类似的方面”。蓝色部分修饰主语Such variations；红色部分，同时修饰主语和蓝色部分（语法介绍参见曼哈顿——名词性修饰里面的不紧贴修饰的几种情况中第一种，英文名字我忘了，中文是非必要的修饰吧？）

我不知道我这样说你觉得理解么？

哈~你的理解好有趣~  不过也有可能~但是呢~你看看后面那个which，  which all involved...  从语义上看这个which是不是跳跃修饰的rules. 如果你把 west african rules governing... 当做修饰语，那后面这个which修饰就不对了。   this preference for exogamy may have derived from west African rules ( govrning marriage), which all.....   并且，你连着看，如果 这个喜好是来自marriage...句意是不是超级奇怪呢？

第二个such开头的是一个半倒装吧~　好吧～其实我觉得挺难的～我愣是来回倒了半天。
我也是你那样看的：
such variations in... remained negligible ....for correlation with the manifold dimensions...
但是，我觉得 as是修饰variations, 就是那一堆堆的，不仅仅是Like。。。 orz...
such variations as had been demonstrated in cells  remained negligible in significance(...) with the manifold dimensions...

哈哈哈哈，我觉得第二句的
such V+in...+as...
是曼哈顿所说的
主语+noun modifier 1+noun modifier 2
nm1修饰主语，nm2修饰“主语+nm1”

你说的和我理解的应该是一个意思
