所用资料只有官方PREP与GWD(也是老PREP,官方资料)。

(Eg.一个选项几个动词:to do, doing, do…

1 读原文:拿下原文outline(对承上词启下词敏感度提高)

1. A study of food resources in the North Pacific between 1989 and 1996 revealed that creatures of the seabed were suffering from dwindling food supplies, possibly resulting from increasing sea surface temperatures during the same period.
A. that creatures of the seabed were suffering from dwindling food supplies, possibly resulting from increasing
B. that creatures of the seabed were suffering because food supplies were dwindling, possibly as a result of an increase in
C. that creatures of the seabed were suffering because of food supplies, which were dwindling possibly as a result of increasing
D. creatures of the seabed that were suffering from food supplies that were dwindling, possibly resulting from an increase in
E. creatures of the seabed that were suffering because food supplies were dwindling, which possibly resulted from increasing
A前面的意思和B差不多,最大的区别在于A用increasing sea surface temperature,重点强调温度(noun: temperature),而B用an increase in sea surface temperature,强调温度的上升(noun: increase),导致这些动物食物短缺的原因是温度的上升而不是温度本身,B更好一些。
C如果用which were dwindling就强调dwindling这个动作的发起者和前面动词的发起者不一样了,which应该指food supplies,B用food supplies were dwindling而C用 food supplies, which were dwindling ,人类都可以知道B更好。
并且可以比较because food supplies were dwindling和 because of food supplies, which were dwindling 一个用句子,一个用名词。逻辑上而言suffering because of food supplies没有B的逻辑意思通顺。

2. The discovery that Earth's inner core rotates independently of and more quickly than Earth's outer layers is responsible for advancing studies of the flow of heat from the inner through the outer planet and of the formation and periodic reversal in direction of Earth's magnetic field.
A. core rotates independently of and more quickly than Earth's outer layers is responsible for advancing studies of the flow of heat from the inner through the outer planet and of the formation and periodic reversal in direction of Earth's magnetic field
B. core rotates independently of and more quickly than Earth's outer layers is responsible for advancing studies of how heat from the inner core flows through the outer planet, and the formation and periodic reversal in direction of Earth's magnetic field
C. core rotates independently and more quickly than Earth's outer layers are responsible for advancing studies of how heat from the inner core flows through the outer planet, and how Earth's magnetic field forms and the periodic reversal of its direction
D. core, rotating independently and more quickly than Earth's outer layers, are responsible for advancing studies of the flow of heat from the inner through the outer planet, and the formation and periodic reversal in direction of Earth's magnetic field
E. core, rotating independently of and more quickly than Earth's outer layers, is responsible for advancing studies of the flow of heat from the inner through the outer planet and of how Earth's magnetic field forms and the periodic reversal of its direction
强调的是core rotates independently and more…
the flow of heat from the inner through the outer planet and of the formation and periodic reversal in direction of Earth's magnetic field还是how heat from the inner core flows through the outer planet, and the formation and periodic reversal in direction of Earth's magnetic field
A的表达更加平行,flow对formation and reversal.

The yield per acre of coffee berries varies enormously in that a single tree, depending on both its size and on climate and altitude, could produce enough berries to make between one and twelve pounds of dried beans a year.
A. enormously in that a single tree, depending on both its size and on climate and altitude, could produce
B. enormously in that a single tree, dependent on its size and also on climate and altitude, is able to produce
C. enormously, because a single tree, depending on its size and on climate and altitude, is able to produce
D. enormously, because a single tree, being dependent on its size, climate, and altitude, is capable of producing
E. enormously, because a single tree, dependent both on its size as well as on climate and altitude, could produce
in that/ because
depending/ dependent
is able to/ could
所以转战别处:size与climate and altitude的平行,可以杀掉A.
E用both…as well as…不好。
剩下B,C:
只剩下in that/ because和depending/ dependent的区别。

1. Guidebook writer: I have
visited hotels throughout the country and have noticed that in those built before 1930 the quality of the original carpentry work is generally superior to that in hotels built afterward. Clearly carpenters working on hotels before 1930 typically worked with more skill, care, and effort than carpenters who have worked on hotels built subsequently.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the guidebook writer’s argument?
A. The quality of original carpentry in hotels is generally far superior to the quality of original carpentry in other structures, such as houses and stores.
B. Hotels built since 1930 can generally accommodate more guests than those built before 1930.
C. The materials available to carpenters working before 1930 were not significantly different in quality from the materials available to carpenters working after 1930.
D. The better the quality of original carpentry in a building, the less likely that building is to fall into disuse and be demolished.
E. The average length of apprenticeship for carpenters has declined significantly since 1930.
A说other structures,范围不对,杀。

2. The sense of delayed gratification, of working now for later pleasure, has helped shape the economic behavior of our society. However, that sense is no longer nurtured as consistently in our children as it once was. For example, it used to take a bit of patience to put together the toys that children got in cereal boxes; now the toys come from the boxes whole.

Which of the following is an assumption of the passage above?
A. The toys in cereal boxes have changed partly because the economic conditions of our society have improved.
B. The influence of promotion gimmicks on the economic behavior of our society has increased over the years.
C. The toys that used to come in cereal boxes were put together by the same children who played with them.
D. Part of the pleasure of any toy lie in putting the toy together before playing with it.
E. Today's children do not expect a single toy to provide pleasure for a long period of time.
Part of the pleasure of any toy lie in putting the toy together before playing with it.

1. Some airlines allegedly reduce fares on certain routes to a level at which they lose money, in order to drive competitors off those routes. However, this method of eliminating competition cannot be profitable in the long run. Once an airline successfully implements this method, any attempt to recoup the earlier losses by charging high fares on that route for an extended period would only provide competitors with a better opportunity to undercut the airline's fares.
Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument?
A. In some countries it is not illegal for a company to drive away competitors by selling a product below cost.
B. Airline executives generally believe that a company that once underpriced its fares to drive away competitors is very likely to do so again if new competitors emerge.
C. As part of promotions designed to attract new customers, airlines sometimes reduce their ticket prices to below an economically sustainable level.
D. On deciding to stop serving particular routes, most airlines shift resources to other routes rather than reduce the size of their operations.
E. When airlines dramatically reduce their fares on a particular route, the total number of air passengers on that route increases greatly.

2. Treatment for hypertension forestalls certain medical expenses by preventing strokes and heart disease. Yet any money so saved amounts to only one-fourth of the expenditures required to treat the hypertensive population. Therefore, there is no economic justification for preventive treatment for hypertension.

Which of the following, if true, is most damaging to the conclusion above?

(A) The many fatal strokes and heart attacks resulting from untreated hypertension cause insignificant medical expenditures but large economic losses of other sorts.
(B) The cost, per patient, of preventive treatment for hypertension would remain constant even if such treatment were instituted on a large scale.
(C) In matters of health care, economic considerations should ideally not be dominant.
(D) Effective prevention presupposes early diagnosis, and programs to ensure early diagnosis are costly.
(E) The net savings in medical resources achieved by some preventive health measures are smaller than the net losses attributable to certain other measures of this kind.

(1) The irradiation of food kills bacteria and thus retards spoilage. However, it also lowers the nutritional value of many foods. For example, irradiation destroys a significant percentage of whatever vitamin B1 a food may contain. Proponents of irradiation point out that irradiation is no worse in this respect than cooking. However, this fact is either beside the point, since much irradiated food is eaten raw, or else misleading, since _______.
(A)many of the proponents of irradiation are food distributors who gain from food’s having a longer shelf life
(B)it is clear that killing bacteria that may be present on food is not the only effect that irradiation has
(C)cooking is usually the final step in preparing food for consumption, whereas irradiation serves to ensure a longer shelf life for perishable foods
(D)certain kinds of cooking are, in fact, even more destructive of vitamin B1 than carefully controlled irradiation is n
(E)for food that is both irradiated and cooked, the reduction of vitamin B1 associated with either process individually is compounded

(2) Industrialists from the country Distopia were accused of promoting the Distopian intervention in the Arcadian civil war merely to insure that the industrialists’ facilities in Arcadia made substantial profits during the war. Yet this cannot be the motive since, as the Distopians foresaw, Distopia’s federal expenses for the intervention were eight billion dollars, whereas, during the war, profits from the Distopian industrialists’ facilities in Arcadia totaled only four billion dollars.

Which of the following, if true, exposes a serious flaw in the argument made in the second sentence above?
A. During the Arcadian war, many Distopian industrialists with facilities located in Arcadia experienced a significant rise in productivity in their facilities located in Distopia
B. The largest proportion of Distopia’s federal expenses is borne by those who receive no significant industrial profits
C. Most Distopian industrialists’ facilities located in Arcadia are expected to maintain the level of profits they achieved during the war
D. Distopian industrialists’ facilities in Arcadia made substantial profits before the events that triggered the civil war
E. Many Distopians expressed concern over the suffering that Arcadians underwent during the civil war
A. 战争期间,D在A的工厂productivity是否变化。
