正确答案是D。但是我觉得凭最后一句：However, cortical locus, in itself, turned out to
have little explanatory value. 并不能得出 it fails to explain the diversity of mental experience.
的结论啊~我选了E。

那最后一句要怎么翻译呢？我当时的理解是：cortical locus本身没有explanatory value，但是之前和它相关的结论是有价值的。

这个可以这么理解，对于这种现象，虽然提出了一个可以部分解释的机制，但由于无法解释更多的现象，因而从实验的角度来说，就是失败的，如果说它能解释现在出现的所有现象，不管它能否解释将来出现的现象，那么这种机制就是有价值的。

如果能explain，则表示能够完全解释，是非常绝对的,除此之外都不算explain,例如解释一部分，或者能解释某些。
