刚刚收到UC Irvin的offer，很诧异

恩，好象只要GMAT上700分的都收到了。我也认为只是个广告，昨天写信去问了，是否只要申请就能拿全奖。还没得到回复。这封信的全文如下，请大大指教：

Dear XXX：

Congratulations! I am delighted to inform you that based on your exceptional GMAT score, our awards committee has prescreened you for a prestigious Dean's Fellowship, pending your successful application to our full-time MBA program by January 31, 2005. Among other benefits, as a Dean's Fellow you will receive a full tuition scholarship in your first year and additional financial support in the second year of the program. The Dean's Fellowship is awarded to a select few individuals who we feel have an exceptional ability and background to pursue a highly successful career in a leadership role.

The Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Irvine is located in one of the most vibrant business communities in the country-Orange County in Southern California. 是否只要申请就能拿全奖

It's impossible. 信里很清楚, pending your successful application.

也就是说，如果你申请，而且成功被录取了，你可以用这封信向学校伸手要钱。学校的主动权在于可以把你拒掉, 而不用付钱，because of the unsuccessful application.

Anyway, 我觉得条件开的还是比较优越的。

是啊，所以觉得他们是想提高申请人的数量和GMAT的分数以提高自己的排名，同时多收申请费。

我查了一下，他们去年虽然仅排名47名，但GMAT平均分数也高达670，相信是通过这样的方法录取了不少高分学生。

BTW，想问一下，我是加国永久居民，但刚来几天。如果被MCGILL和UC IRVINE都录取，该选哪个？毕竟得到UC IRVINE奖学金以后，学费跟MCGILL也差不多了。

Ah, I think it is a promotion if it says "pending your application". I remembered that I received at least 4 letters when I applied. It is all because when i took my GMAT, I chose the option to allow them to share my score with schools.

我觉得申请一下也不错， 毕竟大家都没有那么多银子上名校， 毕业了也未必难找工作， 我想找工作还是要靠人脉， 有了关系就不怕当海带。 名校毕业固然会有体面的工作，容易一些， 但目前的经济情势和高昂的学费会是一个大大的困难。 总之， 不花钱就去旅游一趟，拿到学位， 何乐而不为呀？

UCI 的alumni network好像一般。学校太新，工作不太好找。 Fellowship 只给1年，自己需付第2 年的学费。

想问一下，我是加国永久居民，但刚来几天。如果被MCGILL和UC IRVINE都录取，该选哪个？毕竟得到UC IRVINE奖学金以后，学费跟MCGILL也差不多了，但移民监就没法坐了。

身份问题真是把双刃剑啊。
