4.The passage suggests that the failure of a large business to have its bids for subcontracts result quickly in orders might cause it to
(A) experience frustration but not serious financial harm
(B) face potentially crippling fixed expenses
(C) have to record its efforts on forms filed with the government
(D) increase its spending with minority subcontractors
(E) revise its procedure for making bids for federal contracts and subcontracts
我定位回原文,since most are small concerns and, unlike large businesses, they often need to make substantial investments in new plants, staff, equipment, and the like in order to perform work subcontracted to them. If, thereafter从那时以后, their subcontracts (转包,分包)are for some reason reduced, such firms can face potentially crippling(造成严重后果的 )fixed expenses(固定费用),有几点疑惑,红体字they,是就近指代large company吗啊?such firms指代的是 subcontracts reduced的小公司吗?

先解决你的问题,highlight的they不是指代large companies是指minority companies,包括后面的such firms也是指代minority companies的。

但是亲看清题目哦,题目中说的是the failure of a large business,所以B是不对的,因为B的主语应该是minority companies。而把原文的意思取非就是large business的特性了,你也quote了“they need to make substantial investments ”,取非large business就是不会有serious financial harm的。

恩,我的错误之处是,分不清楚they 和 such firms指代什么,根据你的解释,对 they often need to make substantial investments in…
