查了一下以前的贴子，好像还没人问这到题。答案是a,因为其他的都有明显的错误。但a中，beached 和was subsequently butchered 明显不对称啊，beached不会是一个主动动作吧？请教各位，谢谢。

请参考LONGMAN上关于beach的解释：

beach [transitive]
1.　to pull a boat onto the shore away from the water
2.　if a whale beaches itself or is beached, it swims onto the shore and cannot get back in the water

可是你举的例子里，鲸鱼是活的呀，他当然可以自己跑上岸，if a whale beaches itself

但题目中fossils 是没生命的东东，它只能被冲上岸呀。

由逻辑意思和后面的was subsequently 可以判断出that引导的定语从句是修饰a whale的，而当时的whale当然是活的。

这里fossils是复数名词。这就是通常说的A of B that从句结构中，that的修饰对象首先由that从句中的谓语数量来判断，如若数量上无法判断，则一般优先修饰中心名词A。但是如a number of sth.等结构中的中心名词不是number。

A中的was引导的成份应该也是作为whale的定语成份, 可前面没有that, 不知道这样是否idiomatic?

另外, 如果想加上that, 是否要变成" , that was..."?

感觉如果变成" , and was..."更符合结构的要求.
