刚刚也有过lz得问题：主动和被动可不可以并列，忽然想起今天看过的OG，才体会到了一句话“读书百遍其意自见”

这里现在分词和过去分词分别表示了主动和被动，但OG中的spawned被动的意味要明显些---by的提示

由逻辑意思和后面的was subsequently 可以判断出that引导的定语从句是修饰a whale的，而当时的whale当然是活的。

这里fossils是复数名词。这就是通常说的A of B that从句结构中，that的修饰对象首先由that从句中的谓语数量来判断，如若数量上无法判断，则一般优先修饰中心名词A。但是如a number of sth.等结构中的中心名词不是number。

想请教一个关于C中which从句的用法：

Fossils of a whale that beached on an African shore more than a million years ago and was subsequently butchered by hominids have been recovered by paleontologists.

which从句算是和that从句并列但是省略连词的情况呢？ 还是属于就近指代不当的错误？

因为GWD 中有没有and连接非完整主谓

句也是正确答案的情况；而之前看到一个天山新题是that， but which并列的题。

天山新题20（见大全）.   Puritan fanatics brought to civil and military affairs a coolness of judgment and mutability of purpose that some writers have though inconsistent with their religious zeal, but which was in fact a natural outgrowth of it.
