Baby姐，我是比较愚钝型的，我问一下，您说的这里用begin studying 比begin to study好，是因为题意中American poets 在18 19实际已经开始study了...，所以1900scholars and critics 用begin studying 好一些，因为是继续学习一样东西对么？

我还有4天一战了，我是全职在家学（没有上学时的学习劲头了）一开始没来cd上看帖，觉得og研究的不透，下月末二战不知能不能上七，基础不太好的，但是现在经常来CD上看大家的讨论，尤其是你的，忽然开窍了，呵呵，若是这两次都考不好，考完托福继续学

以前上XDF老师教的不是特别细，总是说直接记住就好...，比如这题老师讲没有until not 必错的所以压根没多想。当然我不是说XDF就不好，它也是情理所致有的人就是想学技巧。所以以前不会学，现在终于指导怎么学了，还有大牛讲解真的要好好珍惜，好好学啊，

看我举的那个数学课的例子
"studying permutation and combination" is the ultimate goal for today's lesson. Therefore, "begin studying permutation and combination".
"the simple problem" is what we are going to (actually) do. Therefore, "begin to look at this problem".

In this problem, "studying ..." is the ultimate goal (or you can consider it a long-lasting process, which is our focus - the scope), not the first step toward a goal. Therefore we should use "begin studying".

"是因为题意中American poets 在18 19实际已经开始study了...，所以1900scholars and critics 用begin studying 好一些，因为是继续学习一样东西对么？"
你说的是"continue studying"和"continue to study"这两者的区别。但可惜，这个句意，是"seriously begin"，而不是说“continue"。这也就是为什么句子中存在转折"although"，而非顺承（continue就是表示顺承）。
当然，你要是把我举的stop, begin这后面doing和to do的区别弄明白了，动词换成continue也一样的道理，举一反三

弱弱地问，sb. be to do本就有准备做某事的意思，再插个begin是不是意思就重复了，所以wordy?

另外，是不是类似于begin to do, begin doing的结构是不能被拆开的（纯属臆测）？也就是说seriously修饰begin的话就放到begin前面，修饰study的话就放到study后面？

用be to去表示future time，在GMAT中是禁止的。
可以直接排出了。

baby姐，我明白begin doing与begin to do的区别，我想不清楚的是在这个题目中你是根据什么线索来判断必须使用doing而非to do的？就是说在这个题目给出的几个句子中，你是根据什么条件来判断说这里study不可能是the actual action的？
