In this editorial ,the author asserts that Palean baskets were not uniquely Palean. To support this assertion , the author states that Palean baskets have been also found in Lithos where the ancient Palean could have crossed it only by boat since there is a deep and broad Brim River between the Palean and Lithos. But no such boats have been found . However ,close scrutiny of each of these facts reveals that none of them lend credible support to the assertion.



First of all, the author fails to consider that the condition of the Brim River may have changed over these time .It is entirely possible that the Brim River may not be as deep and broad as it is today .Consequently , the ancient Palean can reach the Lithos without vehicles .Even if the Brim River 'condition has no significant changes , the author also unfairly excludes other means that people can arrive at the Lithos. All in all , without ruling out these scenarios ,the author cannot get any firm conclusion that the ancient Paleans could have crossed Brim River only by boat.



Secondly ,the fact that no boats have been found does not necessarily indicate that there is actually no such boats exist .Perhaps the boats have been eroded and the archaelogists cannot find them .Or perhaps the locations which the archaelogists have been detected are the places where no boats are exist. Absent these possibilities , the author cannot hastily conclude that the ancient Paleans have not crossed the Brim River by boat.



Further more , the author also ignores the possibility that the Palean basket may reach the Lithos from other cities where the Palean basket can arrive by any methods. There may be a trade center in other places where ancient Paleans sell their baskets. Lithos can easily get baskets from these trade centers .It is also possible that merchant have carried the Palean baskets from Palean to any other places including Lithos. Unless the author evidences that all these trade means are unavailable, I just cannot accept his assertion.



In sum , the assertion is dubious at best .Before I can accept the assertion ,the author must provide better evidence that the Brim River' condition stays stable over these time period and the boat is the only available way for ancient Paleans to reach Lithos .To better support ,it is also necessary to ensure that there is actually no Palean boats exist .I would also need to know that other trade means have not played a role in bringing the Palean boats to Lithos.
