王海波基础语法讲座里说 不是所有情况下有more 就必须有than的。

我的理解：这里的 more than eighty years 等于 over eighty years,  whether...or not 句式 一般不省略，但省略也没错。whether...(or not) = if

more minerals  更多的矿物， 类似的句子有I need more water. more money....

谢谢回复!但是这句话中的whether应该只能理解whether...or, 好象没有加not的意思,还有whether...or not可以省略的说法在哪里看到的呀?请再指教!!
