請問各位前輩一個笨問題...

99.   New theories propose that catastrophic impacts of asteroids and comets may have caused reversals in the Earth’s magnetic field, the onset of ice ages, splitting apart continents 80 million years ago, and great volcanic eruptions.

(A) splitting apart continents

(B) the splitting apart of continents

(C) split apart continents

(D) continents split apart（B）

(E) continents that were split apart

的確如果照平衡來做...絕對選 N  of N 的形式會最好

但是a中的splitting apart在這裡不可以視為 adjective phrase 來修飾 continents嗎??

因為如果可以,那不就跟後面的great volcanic eruptions一樣,也平衡,而且比較簡潔...

還是說中間要加個 "-" 變成  "splitting-apart"  才可以視為adjective phrase ?

同樣的問題在c裡也不太了解...

splitting apart continents 不能理解为a+n，因为这里不是 分词+n的结构，如果改为splitting continents倒可以满足你的要求，但是，即便如此，如你第一句所言，这样的结构还是不比B平行，所以还是应该选B。

另：以后发贴请不要使用‘前辈’，这里都是同路人，没有辈分高低之分。

另外再請教一點...

如你所說此處不是分詞+n的結構....是否就是因為這裡有apart這個字的關係

由於apart是adv, 導致這邊的spiltting 無法視為分詞,  反而會讓人誤會是動詞...

所以發生了錯誤..??
