Hi, Pengstone, congratulations! Simon's interview is by invitation, and it is good for you to have an interview!

Ellen is nice lady, can speak Chinese a little bit, and she likes chinese cultures well. BTW, she is not a memeber of Ad. M.

Just relax!

Talk about why you match Simon and why simon should choose you as one of the students.

Hint:

1)SImon is proud of its finance, and many students come here for finance and will work in IB or corporate finance;

2)simon's academic quality is very high, and you can mention Prof. Barkley somewhat who is one of the boardmembers in NASDAQ---- just check Simon's faculty namelist and find several famous prof. to mention.

3) you can also mention operations---simon has two wonderful operations prof. here

Good luck!

Hi, leecia

You advices are very helpful.

I think i had a good time with Ms. Ellen. Yet I still have a  concern: My background is commercial banking, but i set my career at the consulting focusing on the fields of banking. I also discussed this idea with Ellen during the interview. Do you think Simon will match my goals?

Hi, pengstone, congratulations!

to be frank, if you want to go to IB, simon is not a good choice. Every year, many students come here for IB, but soon they find that it is hard for simon students to get a job in wall street (but for american students will be a little different), esp. those with little or without IB background--as simon's ranking is so good to attract IB to recruit; but simon's corporate finance is pretty good.

In simon, a few students will go to consulting, (simon is not good at consulting--i myself came from and would like to come back consulting firm---- i have to say, simon is very weak in consulting field.) so simon welcomes consulting idea. your scores are high, at least at average ( chinese applicants), so score is not a barrier for you to apply simon. i am sorry that i myself is not good at predicition about adm.

Good luck

Hey Leeciao,

Long time no see, hehe...

Nice to see you here. Busy at Simon, right? Thanks for sharing info here with us.

Why you said chinese students at simon are hard to go for IB? As you and Sfish told me before, most chinese 04ers who got offers in US will work in IB related areas.

No offer of IB is not a bad news. The job of IB is really creazy. 110+ hours work per week, how can thoese I Banker make it? I cannot imagine.

Investment management is good, how about Simon in this field?

Hi, Baobaobear, nice to see you here! sorry to reply you so late; i do not browse the website for a while--the tough schoolwork just drives me crazy.

Most Chinese students who enter into Wall street have a strong IB b/g b4 they came into Simon; the others who get offer from IB are those have input a lot into network with alumni plus a very high GPA.

Maerge: you are right. Last month, some of my classmates went to wallstreet to meet alumni. When they came back, some of them decided to give up IB, b/c IB is a kind of hell life~~~~

delphine18: sorry, i dont know him. If you need the info. I will try my best to get from School's office.

My 2 cents, forget about Investment Management if you are not in one of the top finance school, like MIT, Chicago and Wharton. The reason is simple, IM only recruits few candidates every year, so they rarely comes to campus. Plus, american students also know IM is better than IB, so you will face more competition.

Unless you can show IM firms that you will make money for them right away, otherwise, it will be tough..
