3. Educational institutions have a responsibility to dissuade students from pursuing fields of study in which they are unlikely to succeed.
Writing:
In my opinion educational institutions’ responsibility is to keep a good environment for students studying. The fields where they are likely to succeed should be decided by students not institutions and institutions cannot affect students to develop interests in any subject.
There are many different kinds of subjects in modern world, many fields are created by the people who like to exploring, researching new things and most of them are motivated by interests rather than the directions from educational institutions.
Today many educational institutions coerce students to study regardless of helping to grow creativity thinking. Students always engaged in doing homework, remembering old knowledge, they seldom to think how to explore new knowledge or other unknown fields, creating and exploring are more interesting and challenging.
Many scientists and business men succeeded in fields which have little relations with their major in schools.
For instance, Mr.Ma Yun, the founder of Alibaba corporation. He studied English in University, he was weak in Math and scientific subjects when he was a students. He said his math was so weak that always get less than 40% marks in examinations. He even cannot use computer skillfully except sending or receiving emails. But he has interested in electric economy and believed it would be developed well in China so he persuaded some friends to start business even they had little knowledge about electric economy. With years of effort they succeed and Alibaba is the biggest company in electric economy field in Asia now.
Louis de Broglie, the famous physical scientist, he majored in history and law in University. It says that he did well in history, physiologic, French fields. But when he read two articles about science he interested in it and researchedquantum mechanics, eventually he raised theory about the electric wave in his thesis which is well known as De Broglie-Bohm Theorem, this theory is very important for the development in quantum mechanics and he rewarded the Nobel physical prize.
Consequently educational institutions have no responsibility to dissuade students from pursuing field of study in which they are unlikely to succeed because they have not sure whether they can succeed in specific field in future and students own interests will direct them to explore and make achievements in some fields.
