OG12 SC 125 疑惑中，请赐教！

靠语感选出正确答案，和把别人讲懂，是两回事。
我们练习的题目，全是retired questions，没有任何一道题会出现在真实考试当中。
练习的时候语感好，20s做对，谁有能保证考试那么紧张的情况下也能有那么好的预感？
或者，练习的时候，花20s时间排除了A/C/D/E，真正考试时，那些干扰选项不像这么长，换了个长相，又怎么办？

我觉得这里讨论的同学都很赞，他们中我相信有很多人选对了答案，但是大家相互探讨，追求的是怎么理解OG这句拗口的话，甚或遇到类似选项类似题目怎么办.....

我们现在花5分钟、10分钟、半小时甚至更长时间，彻底弄懂这个结构怎么回事，那么下次一看到这个题目，直接潜意识就知道该往哪个选项瞅：
doubling the quantity/number of sth (countable).
或者twice as many as sth (countable).
然后再扫一眼其它选项，就能选对了
整个过程within 10 sec

E选项代入原句，就是：

did=produced，代入：
... produces a doubling of the applesthat it produced in 1910.

看到了么？"that it produced in 1910" is an essential modifier that "defines" the apples.
换句话说，"the applesthat it produced in 1910"这一部分，特指那些个1910年生产出来的苹果。
那么a doubling of "那些个1910年生产出来的苹果" 不合逻辑，这就是OG解释中说的：
A doubling of the apples is awkward and, when joined with that it did, suggests doubling the apples themselves, not the amount of apples.
回忆一下咱平常见到的"double"的句子:
..., doubling the amount of X
..., doubling the rate of X
于是我们发现，"double"后面往往跟这一类的词：amount, quantity, speed, frequency, rate (of), rates (for), price, ...有规律吧？肯定不能跟"apples""students"这一类的具体的东东。


而这题正确选项代入：
125B. Today, because of improvements in agricultural technology, the same amount of acreage produces
twice as many apples as it did in 1910.

句子主干：
Acreage produces apples as it did.  没问题

然后用到twice as many ... (as)来修饰apples的数量，所以加到"apples"前面。
（类比：要说5个苹果，把表数量的five加到apples前面，变成"five apples"）
Acreage produces twice as many apples as it did.

检查一下：比较双方，前者是第一个as后面的名词"apples"，后者是第二个as之后"it did"的宾语( "it did ___" 和前面 "acreage produces apples" 是平行结构，所以"it did ___"那个宾语必然和前面的宾语apples平行，必然可比）。OK,没问题。

——以上，比较啰嗦，其实我想细说B选项这个结构怎么出来的，然后就知道为什么"it has"或者"there were"和前面的"acreage produces apples"不平行。

我想说，归纳一下, “a doublingof” 后面跟什么样的词？
数量(number,amount, quantity…)，价值，一些物理量(如concentration, pressure, force…)

之所以有人归纳说“GMAT里面 a doubling of 永远错”，是因为GMAT经常会错误地在 “a doubling of” 后面跟具体名词诸如apples, students——这用法就是错的。

我记得prep08有一句话是这么说的。。。a doubling of 永远错。。。

我想弱弱的问一下D项的解释，Two times is wordy     ............. why？
D选项是two times as many apples as ，这不是符合倍数的说法的吗。难道就因为two times是两个词，而twice是一个词咩~

the amount of the apples肯定不对
apples用number而不是amount，除非作者的本意是用类似kg之类的单位来计量apples
