American Born In China 2012-1-5

This last week I have been working with my brother at his coffee shop in Chuxiong a small town in Yunnan Province. My brother's wife went back to the United States to attend her sisters wedding. Today he had to let one of his workers go, she had been late a couple times and been a little bit unwilling to do certain jobs. Its interesting how Chinese relationships can be so complicated, for example my brother asks one of his workers (not the one he fired) to get some rice for supper but she refused because she claimed that wasn't her job. Needless to say my brother gave her a very strict reproof and she went and bought the rice. One time a worker even told my brother what to do, his reply was "yes ma'am" she immediately took her words back and I literally laughed out loud. Its crazy....

Today I didn't do much other than designing a name card for a friend and once again Chinese relationships can get complicated, when I was done he thoroughly thanked me and left. Okay we are friends but that doesn't mean you don't have to pay me... ah well! At least it wasn't a big job. Something I always have to remember I am in China in your country so I'll submit myself to doing things your ways, even if I loose a little bit. Its an experience! Believe me I'm not complaining, I'd be so much worse off in the United States but as they say, "The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence."

That is it for today
