主要还是题意没理解好和选项没主意看。原文中说Inflation in the intervening period has been negligible. -->通货膨胀是可以忽略的。那么C就不对了。既然通货膨胀是可忽略的，微不足道的，就不可能出现C这种情况了。C显然是陷阱。

而E：children typically supplement the income of elderly parents, but only by enough to provide them with a comfortable lives.

注意阴影部分。孩子们是补充老人的收入，但补充的结果是仅仅足够他们have a comfortable lives. 如果政府增加老人的pension的话，children就会减少他们补充的部分，也是仅仅足够老人have a comfortable live.

（欧陆词典中文解释）增补、遗漏、补编
所以不是脑补的信息，而是argument中表达的就是“孩子们补充老人们的收入，但仅够他们过上舒适的生活”这个意思。
老人们的收入增加了，孩子们补充得少了，老人们生活没有明显改善。
