现在在og11里面出现了新的解释:

D.Excepting usually appears in negative constructions ;it is not the correct idiom in this sentence.

这个解释是什么意思呢?怎么使用它呢?

问..

以下是引用hyte在2006-2-22 17:13:00的发言:

我不是很認同您的解釋~~我們台灣這的老師都是教我們~except for A, B....此時A,B可以不同類~像這題就是如此!A是a concert performance  而B是ragtime opera~不屬同類!except A, B...此時A, B一定要同累~至於excepting=except  看到必錯!馬上刪

except:

prep.  1.used to introduce the only person, thing, action, fact, or situation about which a statement is not true
The office is open every day except Sundays.

You can have any of the cakes except this one       .此处A ....except B(同except A,B)确有同类的情况

except for
Everyone went except for Scott and Dan.

She felt fine except for being a little tired.         except for A, B....此時A,B可以同类,也可以不同類

都是取“除了....之外(不包含,与besides的包含不同),其他的怎样”的意思,而且朗文有这样的说法“
At the beginning of a sentence, always use except for, not just except ”,即except不用于句首。

conj.  2.used to give the reason why something was not done or did not happen   这个解释跟本题无关,而且GMAT好像没有出现过使用这个的解释。
except (that)
Liz would have run, except that she didn't want to appear to be in a hurry.

excepting

 prep.    formal
used to introduce the only thing or person in a group about which a statement is not true——synonym except (for)

O'Rourke answered all the questions excepting the last one

It is a desert with no animals of any kind, excepting a few lizards.

excepting的解释比except的解释少了“action, fact, or situation ”,即excepting后面只能接thing和person,且朗文给出的这两个例句都是同类的。

所以,我认为:

except A, B....和excepting A, B....中A和B必须同类的,不用于句首;且excepting只能后接人或物,不能接动作、事实或情况;

except for A, B。。。中A和B可以是不同类,用于句首。

这题中的"concert performance"我认为是属于“action, fact or situation”的范畴,所以用excepting是“it is not the correct idiom in this sentence.”

至于“Excepting usually appears in negative constructions ;”这个是指什么,是否是说常用于否定结构中?没法找到原因,不知哪位能做解释??

对于这里OG11中对于D的解释,D  Excepting usually appears in negative constructionsit is not the correct idiom in this sentence.注意到解释部分的两句话是用分号连接,也就是说,并不是因为excepting usually appears in negative constructions,这里才是不正确的.前半句话只是说在较多情况下excepting用于否定,(并不是说不能用肯定)正如我们在现代英汉综合大辞典中可以查到的,excepting, prep, 可以用在not, without, always后面. 后半句话说这里不正确,个人理解是句首一定要用except for,正如longman里提到的except/except for [preposition] not including the person or thing that you mention. At the beginning of a sentence, always use except for, not just except

excepting

[用于句首或 not, without, always 后面]除...外
Everyone, not excepting myself has the responsibility.
每人都应负责 (包括我自己)。

OG的就是说excepting通常都是跟在否定词后面的.

補充:

excepting

prep
except
USAGE: The use of excepting is considered by many people to be
"acceptable only after not, only, always, or without".

            Elsewhere except is preferred:
EX. every country agreed to the proposal except (not excepting) Spain;
he was well again except for (not excepting) a slight pain in his chest.
