excepting preposition

used to introduce the only thing or person in a group about which a statement is not true
- synonym except (for)O'Rourke answered all the questions excepting the last one

excepting (prep)

used to introduce the only thing or person in a group about which a statement is not true
- synonym except (for)screen.width-500)this.style.width=screen.width-500;">

O'Rourke answered all the questions excepting the last one
excepting和except (for)

In D, the use of Excepting in place of the
preposition Except for is unidiomatic.
all the questions excepting the last one. They were all saved excepting
the captain.),所以只能夠說服自己ETS prefer "except for"而不偏好"excepting"?

理由OG在前一句里解释了,the participle staging inappropriately expresses ongoing rather than completed action,

102. Except for a concert performance that the composer himself staged in 1911, Scott Joplin’s ragtime opera Treemonisha was not produced until 1972, sixty-one years after its completion.

(A) Except for a concert performance that the composer himself staged

(B) Except for a concert performance with the composer himself staging it

(C) Besides a concert performance being staged by the composer himself

(D) Excepting a concert performance that the composer himself staged

(E) With the exception of a concert performance with the staging done by the composer himself

根据langman:

excepting,preposition:

1)used to introduce the only thing or person in a group about which a statement is not true [= except (for)]:

eg.O'Rourke answered all the questions excepting the last one.

1)excepting在此如果作为except的动名词解,那么 分词在句首,其逻辑主语为句子主语 ,主语为Scott Joplin’s ragtime opera,逻辑关系就错了;

2)excepting在此如果作介词解(我认为在题是作介词,因为OG解释: the use of Excepting in place of the preposition Except for is unidiomatic.

to be discuss...

在连接不同类型的事物时,只能用except for——The house was silent except for a clock chiming in the living room.

另外,根据longman的解释,句首只能用except for——Except for a small part in an obscure movie years ago, Depardieu had never before acted in an English-language picture.

except for用于The composition is good except for its construction.
